Solving Aaron's Problems

added 8 years ago A AR BM O

The boy wizard frowned at Aaron. "You don't care about taking away years of this young man's life?"

Aaron scowled back. "Look, I have spent decades as a snot-nosed little kid waiting for a chance to break our damned curse! Maybe you don't mind being a boy. You can do your magic as long as you can wave your arms and talk. I'm a fighter, an explorer!"

"And what about the centaur you want to force into being your horse?" The wizard's expression was getting colder, but Aaron did not seem to notice, though Mike did.

"He agreed!" The red-haired fighter threw up his hands in frustration. "It doesn't matter that he wants to back out now, does it? Once he agreed to be my horse he was mine to do what I want with." He turned back to Mike. "OK, so you might not liv as long, but you'll be a great warhorse. Powerful, beautiful, no worries or cares. It's a great life!"

The wizard smiled slightly. "I am very glad you think so." And then he waves his hands and spoke something Mike did not understand. There was a wrenching inside his head, and then he was suddenly looking at huge black centaur who was obviously more horse-like than he should be. It took a moment for Mike to realize he was looking at his old body. A glance down confirmed that he was now Aaron!

The centaur jerked back a little and then twisted around to stare at himself in horror. "No! I don't want to be a stupid horse!"

"It's a great life." The boy wizard threw Aaron's words back in his face with contempt. "I should never promised to help you." Then he smiled. "But now that you are the centaur, my promise is to the young warrior here."

He turned to Mike, who was still bewildered by the sudden change. "All of the bonds still hold - just the roles have been swapped. You can use the brush to complete his transformation and have yourself a magnificent animal."

Aaron's eyes widened, but he was under the same compulsion to obey that Mike had fallen prey to. Then he drooped with a sigh. "Fine! Go ahead and finish me up. I'd rather be a stallion than spend another minute as a little kid."

Mike stared up at the defeated centaur. "What happens if I just let him go? Can we stay like we are?"

The boy wizard shrugged. "Depends on the curse. I have never tried something like this before. If we do not complete the transformation, the conditions of the curse will not be fulfilled. If the magic sees you as being Aaron, you will end up as a little kid again. If not, you may stay as you are. In either case, Aaron will be in your form and possibly assume your life. That depends on what your wizard decides, I think."

Mike felt his face and remembered how handsome the red-haired fighter had looked. Then he thought about the filthy little boy that had brought him here. The other alternative was going back to being the deformed centaur. Despite the boy wizard's pronouncement that the horse changes could not be reversed, Mike was pretty sure that Tye could undo anything he wanted to. He looked at the magic brush still in his hand, then back to the wizard.

"OK. I have decided to..."
