"Katie! Come on!"
Kelly's voice snapped Katie from her own thoughts, turning she saw the other girl grinning and waving from the edge of the waves.
"Come on, the surf is up!"
Katie nodded, only glancing back at the women. "There will be time later," she thought.
Splashing out into the water, Katie started to wonder what she was feeling. Until now, she'd never done such a thing, heck, Mom had only taken her to a few swimming lessons. Now, as she flopped on her board and paddled out into the water, it came as second nature.
"It must be the wish," She thought with a grin. "It's made it so I just know like it was natural."
A sudden swell caught her attention. Kelly cried out, "here it comes!"
Without thinking, Katie was suddenly paddling along the swell, feeling it surge beneath her...then her balance shifted, she was on her feet and suddenly flying! Not so much flying....but as close to it...propelled by the wave. A thrill of exhilaration rocketed through the preteen's body. THIS was awesome....this was so much better than anything she half expected when she would have gone to Kindergarten.
"Who wants to go back to that when I can do this," She thought to herself. Glancing back she saw Kelly riding just behind her. This young girl, her former mother, was almost unrecognizable. Her eyes were bright as stars, wet hair whipping in the wind. Katie knew and felt that this was the right decision. The two surfed for hours...ignoring even the pangs of hunger as lunch passed them by, as the sun set, they at last were driven ashore. Katie grinned as she planted her board down in the sand.
"That was...amazing," She said.
Kelly grinned, "Best surfing session yet! Im glad we skipped school for this!"
Skipped school? Katie hadn't thought of other ramifications of this. What had her wish entailed. Glancing around, she was also disappointed to see the older women were gone. Maybe it was just as well, she didn't know what the wishing power might do to others.
"Come on Kat! Lets go home," Kelly cried, scooping up discarded sneakers and running for where the car had once been.
