Katie knew that she had to act soon or her Mom would be suspicious. She had a plan though. "I wish Mom was exactly as she was when she was 6 years old, and that all her grown up stuff would change and become mine. I wish that over the course of the day she'd start to forget grown up things and how to act like a grown up, without forgetting who she was."
She felt the warm tingle and watched as her mother slipped back one year. As she did, all the diplomas and all the pictures changed to reflect Katie as the adult and Kelly the child. Kelly blinked and looked down to her tiny body, wiggling her toes. Katie smiled and began her act, "Ok kiddo, get dressed I'll make us some breakfast and we'll get you off to school."
Kelly nodded meekly and Katie went downstairs. When kelly came down, she was wearing a simple pink and purple dress, ankle socks and pink converse sneakers. Her hair was still braided. Only her ears seemed out of place, as they had adult earrings in them. Entering the kitchen found herself treated to something completely unexpected. There was kids cereal, cookies, soda, milk and pizza, all the sorts of things a kid would probably want to eat when they had breakfast, but an adult would never really serve.
"Katie, I cant eat all this! I have to have a normal breakfast." Kelly insisted.
Katie turned to her, "Mom, if your going to turn back, you have to start thinking more like a kid....if you don't it might get worse..."
"But..." Suddenly Kelly felt a small tingle in her mind. At first she didn't know what it was....but as her legs dangled...she began to swing them. "Weird..." She thought. "It all looks so good!" She no sooner thought it then the adult part of her realized this was a childish thought.
"Ah!"
"What's wrong?" Katie asked, still playing dumb.
"I...all this stuff, im starting to think it looks good!"
"See, I told you." Katie said. "Now eat up, I have to drive you to school."
"What? You don't know how to drive...." As soon as Kelly said it, she suddenly felt the tingle and realized...she didnt either. She clutched her head. "No...not that too."
Katie smiled as she herself wished for the knowledge and gasped as it entered her brain. "Come on kiddo, eat up."
Kelly did so glumly, chewing quietly. As she ate, her adult mind subconsciously how gross it was and no sooner did she think it....the food suddenly tasted awesome, like the best breakfast ever. This only made her grimace to realize it. Finally when she was done, Kelly jumped down. "Come on Ill be late!"
Katie smiled and stopped her, "Hold on Mom...there's one more thing." She touched her fingers to her mom's ears. "Your too young to have earrings..." She said.
Kelly blinked. This was where much of it began, but the sudden sting of having her own daughter tell her it was a slap in the face. She knew it was true...if she went to kindergarten with earrings, she'd stick out.
"But...my ears are peirced.." She mewled.
"I wish mom's ears were the way they were when she was 6."
Instantly, the earrings simply popped out and fell into Katie's waiting hands. Kelly gasped, and reached up to feel the smooth skin of her lobes. It was as much a final surrender to the physical form of a child as she could admit, even as her mind adjusted and she forgot what having earrings felt like. Worse yet, she was curious.
"Alright kiddo, lets get you to kindergarten."
