Since Jen was supposed to be sick, she had no choice but to stay in her room that evening. She decided to call Suzy to pass some time.
Suzy, who was actually sick, sounded a little horse on the other end of the line.
“Suzy, you've heard of that curse where you ask someone to transform or you ask them to take a dare, right?” Jen asked, careful not to explicitly say the words together, since she currently had the curse.
“Sure, I mean... It’s just a weirder version of truth or dare, right?” She replied.
“Yea, but it has the power to actually change someone,” said Jen.
“You don’t actually believe in that junk, do you?” Suzy asked, letting out a bit of a laugh.
Jen, remembering how she felt when Kyle had called, simply thought “Oh sister...You have no idea...”
“Yea, I suppose it’s just a silly rumor,” she lied.
Suzy asked how cheer practice went. Jen said, “oh, fine... Not much happened today, quite a few people were out sick, yourself included.” It was an educated guess, since she wasn't there either. The question reminded her of how bad her day could have gone, since there was no way her cheer-leading uniform would be able to conceal what she carried down below.
The two spent time talking about their classes, teachers, and shared gossip. Jen found herself feeling oddly sympathetic whenever they joked about someone they had made fun of. She couldn't express that to her friend, at least not for a few more days, but she knew that she wouldn't be the same person after this experience...Physically or mentally.
Before they finished the call Jen asked, “Suzy, there’s something really important that I need to talk to you about.”
“Oh?”, Suzy replied, “What’s up?”
“Well, I’d rather talk about it in person... Can you come over Sunday evening?” Jen asked, knowing that her parents had a date night planned.
“Sure, I am feeling a lot better than I had on Wednesday, but I can’t guarantee that whatever bug I caught won’t still be contagious!” She said, halfheartedly.
“Thanks,” Jen replied, “I’m really looking forward to it.”
Jen had no idea how Suzy would react when she showed her changes.
After a pause her friend said “Yea, I’ll check back with you on Sunday.... Later Jen!”
She hung up the phone and looked at the clock. It was only 7pm, but she had a long day and was definitely feeling tired. She removed her nightgown and took a quick shower, this time not spending much time looking in the mirror afterwards. She replaced the gown and crawled back into bed. It wasn't long before she passed out...
