Somehow, Kevin managed to get to Lilia's apartment. He didn't see his car in the parking lot, meaning Gisela probably hadn't beaten him to Lilia. Kevin realized he had memorized how to get to Lilia's apartment and didn't have it written down anywhere or stored in his phone.
Kevin knocked on the Lilia's door and tried to catch her breath.
"Who is it?" came Lilia's voice from inside.
"Kevin."
"...you don't sound like the Kevin I know anymore than the person who called on the phone."
Gisela had called! But apparently unsuccessfully.
"I know I don't. It's a long story. Please open the door."
After a moment the door cracked open.
"Who are you? You're not Kevin."
"I am, I swear. I'd rather explain inside."
"Kevin is a man. You're obviously a woman."
"We had a date this evening. I was disappointed you ask me to stay; you just gave me a big kiss and said goodnight."
Lilia stared at Kevin in disbelief.
"Tell me the truth: what is going on!"
Kevin glanced up and down the hallway to make sure nobody else was around. "After I left your apartment, I went to a bar where I met a mermaid. She turned me into a mermaid and told me you're a mermaid too. If you let me in, I'll prove to you I'm a mermaid."
Lilia's jaw dropped. "How..."
"Just let me in, please!" said Kevin, fearful that Gisela would show up any minute now.
"Okay..." said Lilia and she opened the door, letting Kevin in. He quickly got inside, closing and locking the door behind him.
