The genie gives you a funny look, but doesn't seem worried or disinterested. She almost seems amused.
"Sure, what did you have in mind?" she asks, curious.
"Well, first let's go somewhere with less people," you say out loud. "How does the park sound?"
The genie agrees, and you both walk down to the park. It is a bit chilly out, so it's not very crowded, especially on the walking trails. The two of you find yourselves nearly alone on the paths, only coming across the occasional jogger or people-watcher sitting on a bench. You feel like this would be a good place to start, since you will probably only have to concentrate on one stranger at a time.
"I want to see how my ability to make people forget works," you say through the earpiece. "I need to know what exactly it does before I need to use it on a bunch of people."
The genie nods understandingly, and whispers into the scarf, "So what's the plan?"
You look around to make sure the only one in the area is an old man seated on a bench, reading a newspaper. The trees block the view from further down the path, and you don't hear any footsteps. "I'll alter your appearance into something strange. Then you go over to the man over on the bench, ask him for directions to the exit. I'll see how he reacts, then make him forget. You walk off down the path, then I'll come by, ask him if he's seen you, and see how much he actually remembers," you explain.
The genie raises an eyebrow. "Sounds simple enough," she murmurs. "What exactly are you going to change about my look?"
You consider a moment, then get a mischievous smile on your face. Without missing a beat, you make an alteration to the back of her skirt.
"Well?" the genie asks. At that moment, she feels something against the back of her legs, and looks over her shoulder. It's all you can do to keep from laughing. Hanging from the back of her skirt, gently wagging back and forth, is a tail matching the one the genie gave you two days ago, white patch at the tip and all. The genie gives you a hard look but can't help but smile a bit at your cheekiness. She sets off along the path to carry out your stratagem.
You listen in through the scarf as the genie carries out your scheme to the letter, and you ensure that the tail - which is only connected to the skirt, not the genie herself - wags enough to give the impression of life. The old man doesn't really notice the tail as she stands next to him, but he definitely catches sight of it as she walks away. You smirk to yourself as he squints, his eyes open wide, he cleans his glasses, and looks again. Only when the genie has rounded the bend out of sight do you will the old man to forget. As though he were merely looking into the distance and daydreaming, the old man calmly turns back to his paper. You then approach him to begin phase two.
"Excuse me, sir, have you seen a lady come this way? she's a friend of mine and we got separated in the park," you query. "You might have noticed her, she's a bit...unusual."
The old man looks up from his paper at you, and responds...
