Oh it feels so good as Beth touches me, her fingers at first so light a touch as if she is shy then honest and firm scratching. I find myself narrowing eyes in bliss and kicking slightly with one of my feet at the intense wave of pleasure. I never understood as a human just how good this really feels to a dog. As well I could scratch my own ears but with my growing nails upon each finger tip I can not touch my ear without leaving painful welts.
“Beth did you really miss me that much?” I ask while struggling to keep my tongue from lolling out of my mouth. Drooling will only gross her out I think while watching her treat me as a normal dog.
“They called and told me how much you have missed me.” She replies raising a hand to wipe away tears from her eyes. “It made me so sad to hear you had cried and asked for me. And well your best friend Josh has been very nice to me I just could not stay away when the nice doctor called and said you have begged to see me.”
I cock my head suddenly confused at hearing her words as my thoughts seem like so much mud. “I never told them about you Beth….” I trail off suddenly unsure what had been dream and what had been conversation. Every moment sense I came to this lab is suddenly hazy as I try to remember the past few days.
“Not at all Jude? Not even a little?”
As I watch her I see how she is holding back now. But my nose tells me how my words wound her. “I did cry for you at night. But I never told the staff here about you.” I pause giving my nose a quick lick then blink at the reflexive action. Why did I just lick my nose I wonder then dismiss it as unimportant at the moment. “I think they got your name and number from the paper work I filled out.”
“Do you wish me to leave Jude?”
The sudden question ears my ears perking forward as I look to her. “No!” I find myself half barking the reply. “I missed you so bad but they told me I was not allowed any contact from my human life. How is it that you got into this lab? As guests are never allowed in here. Only staff and those being changed….” My eyes suddenly go wide. Oh my god I think in sudden shock. “The doctor gave you a shot Beth?” My heart beating rapidly I try to keep calm not wishing to scare Beth. Maybe I am wrong in thinking the doctor plots to make my girl friend into a canine? And yet I can not ignore the feeling of happiness that washes threw me at the very idea of an Irish wolf hound bitch sharing my kennel here. “Beth…you need to go home now.” Please go now before I beg you to stay I silently think to myself unable to keep the canine whine from my words.
“Ah so I see you found him Beth.” The doctor says while walking in the door with two nurses.
