I was a little surprised that Bradley decided to go before Allan, but I was interested to see what he would become. I was also curious to see exactly how he would transform. He stood perfectly straight and just looked straight ahead. Then his body began to tremble. The trembling gained intensity and quickly became vibrating. His entire body began to vibrate so fast that I could feel his vibrations in my seat.
As his body continued to vibrate his body actually went out of focus. He became nothing more than a large blur. Through the blur I thought I could see something changing. I was able to see two things for sure. One was that his hair grew shorter. Another was that his entire body grew smaller. I could tell that he was losing both height and weight.
About a minute after his body went out of focus, the vibrations stopped and he returned to focus. But he wasn’t the same anymore. In fact, he wasn’t even a he anymore. Where Bradley had stood there was now a woman who was probably a few inches shorter than me, with short blond hair in what you might call a pixie cut. She had a pixie-ish face as well, like a girl who looked younger than she probably was. She wasn’t the kind of girl that Joe would fancy because she was so short and she didn’t have the greatest looking figure.
I could tell that about her figure because her clothes were different, too. Bradley’s dirty-looking, loose clothes had been replaced by a skintight, purple leotard that covered her from head to toe. It showed that, while her body wasn’t unattractive, it didn’t have a lot about it that stood out. It was average looking.
I soon found out that she was anything but average. Once she seemed to have her wits about her she focused on me. She smiled when she saw me. Before I could blink she was standing next to with her hand outstretched. “Hi, how are you? Lady Lightning here. You’re Bambi, is that right? How do you like it so far? Sorry for Bradley, he’s like that. Oh my, I’m talking a mile a minute, aren’t I? So, how are you?” she said. She was completely accurate when she said she was talking a mile a minute. I could barely comprehend all the words because she spoke so damned fast.
I said to her, “Uh…how did…”
“I get over here so fast?” she asked. “Let me show you.” She took a few steps away from me, took a runner’s starting position and then took off. All I could see was this purple blur all around the room. About ten seconds later she was standing next to me again. She said, “I just did five laps around this place and I’m not even out of breath.” Again she spoke incredibly fast. “That’s my power. I’m fast. I can run faster than anyone, I can think faster than anyone and unfortunately I tend to talk faster than anyone. I’m still working on slowing down the talking, but not the running and the thinking. See, completely opposite of poor, slow Bradley. There I go again talking too fast. Sorry, Bambi,” she said with a smile.
“I’ll just have to do my best to keep up with you,” I said. “But, yea, you do seem pretty different from Bradley.”
She said, “Well you’re different from Joe, right? Commander Victory is different from Victoria. Shifter is different from Julie. B…oh, shoot. Sorry, Allan,” she said. She must have remembered that Allan hadn’t changed yet. She started to say a name, but all I heard was that it started with a “B.”
“So Bradley doesn’t like you because you’re too fast?” I asked.
She shrugged her shoulders. “I guess. I don’t know, but, you know, I guess that has to be it. He takes his time to do everything and he’s just never in a big hurry and a bunch of other things and all that. He’s not super polite, either, and I always try to be. He also doesn’t care if he hurts other people’s feelings or insults them or gets in their way or what others think of him, and I try to take those things into consideration when dealing with people. I’m still hoping that some of that will rub off on him.”
Despite her mile-a-minute way of talking, I liked her. She was incredibly polite and upbeat and basically everything that Bradley was not. I hoped she’d be around more often than Bradley was.
“I guess it’s time for me to go,” said Allan. He stood up and removed his lab coat. “Prepare to meet the ultimate opposite personality.”
