What you see when you look up causes you to start and reflexively take a step backwards. The grass holds tightly to your ankle, causing you to fall over, but any concerns about that are put on hold in your mind as you witness the spectacle before you. It's a horse, which is odd enough in itself this being a forest. This one is a bright, almost luminescent white color and larger then most horses you'd seen before. The lower part of her legs is covered with think flowing hair that matches the long glorious mane resting along it's neck. Its tail is also made of the same white hair, wavier then you'd have expected and it raises up from it's rear a touch before cascading down in back of it. It's eyes are the soft, round eyes of a horse, of course, green of color, and seem to carry with them a deeper awareness then that of most average horses. Finally a single conical horn extends away from it's forehead. You barely notice the rest of the forest now, your attention focused on this creature, seemingly as startled to see you as you are of it.
"U-unicorn." you whisper aloud, barely believing that you're saying it.
The creature turns to run off, but looks back seeming to realize you're no threat. It approaches and stands near the edge of the fairy ring, lifting it's nose to take in your scent. The unicorn shakes it's head a couple of times, as though it came to a decision, and pokes it's horn inside the ring and takes a few tentative steps inside. As though trying to keep most of her body outside it uses its horn to cut at the grass binding your leg. As the blades of grass are severed they fall away from your ankle and onto the ground. You stand up, your heart still beating furiously at how close you are to a creature you've always been told doesn't really exist. It doesn't run as you stand, and shakes its head at you once or twice. Unsure of what else to do you touch the unicorn's nose.
It responds warmly to your touch pressing its nose closer to your hand briefly before lowering it's head causing your hand to touch the horn of the fantastical beast. As you she backs away, out of the fairy ring, your hands slipping away. You attempt to follow, but as you reach the edge of the ring some unseen force prevents you from leaving. You panic as you bang and push against whatever it is keeping you here to no avail. The unicorn approaches you again, its calm nature calming you as well. The horn once again pushes into the fairy ring and towards you. This time you understand, or at least think you do. You reach out and take hold of the horn, wrapping your fingers gently around it. With that it backs away, taking your hand and soon afterwards the rest of your body with it. You look back at the fairy ring that held you prisoner for a time and look back at the unicorn.
"Thank you." you say in a low whisper.
The creature responds by touching your forehead with it's horn and turns to leave. You stand in awe of the creature as it goes deeper into the forest.
