Molly rested her head on a pillow I had gotten for her. "I'm fine, Drew. Whatever they injected me with, it didn't work."
I wasn't so sure. Since she had woken up from her black out, Molly had been very clumsy and disoriented, like she hadn't slept in months.
"Alright, Molly, but please, if something happens to you, get me immediately."
"Yeah, sure..." She quickly fell asleep.
I smiled and kissed her forehead, going to my room. I needed some R&R myself, after the day we'd been through.
The next morning, I awoke to the sound of screaming. I entered the living room to a sight I could hardly watch.
Molly was hunched over, screaming. A pile of puke covered my table; It was pure green, and smelled awful.
I was too focused on Molly to care about that, anyway. Rushing to her side, I saw the source of the pain.
Right before my eyes, Molly's fingernails were blackening and growing, becoming smooth and curved, and very dangerous looking. Her hands were cracking, as the bones changed to fit the new claws.
I quickly contacted a doctor, and a medical team had soon arrived. Molly was taken to a hospital, and I went off to find answers.
..........
In the interrogation room, there was a rather deranged looking man. His eyes were heavy, and his hair was grey.
I sat down in front of him. He was the leader of the freak show at the festival. He knew what they had done to her.
"Please," I said, pleading with him. "Tell me what happened to Molly."
He snickered. "Let me tell you a story. There's one animal that's always really fascinated me. Lions. I always saw them as a symbol of power. Something people like you and me lack."
He stared at me directly. "I set out to fix that. My goal was to create a hybrid between man and beast. Obviously, I had already done so, with Leona, but she was unintelligent, uncontrollable. What I needed was a new serum, that could make an intelligent being with a lion-like body."
At this point, he laughed outloud. "That serum, of course, is what I shoved in that whore you call a girlfriend."
"You son of a bi-" He cut me off. "Don't worry though. She won't change immediately, it would kill her. No," And he smiled wide. "She's going to get it nice and slow."
..........
I delivered the news to Molly at the ER. She just sat there for a while, motionless.
"So," She said. "I'm going to become a lioness?"
"Yeah," I said, trying not to hurt her. "I'm really sorry, Molly, I-"
"Sorry? Really?" She smiled. "What do I have to worry about?" She began to examine her claws, and ran it through the fabric of the hospital bed, tearing it. "I think I'm gonna like this."
