Rick stretched as he got out of his car and felt the pain in his back. He wouldn't be able to do his job much longer and then what would he do? Not too many employers wanted to hire a 40 year old who hadn't gone to college. It wasn't like he didn't want to go to college but he just hadn't been able to afford it. Maybe he should have taken his parent's advice and gone into the military but he didn't think he would have fit in. Well there was nothing he could do about that now.
He entered the lobby of the apartment building he was living in and opened the mailbox for his apartment. As he took the mail out he noticed an envelope from the apartment management. "Great," he muttered rolling his eyes, "my rent payment was probably lost again. I swear someone keeps losing it on purpose. I better go to the bank after work tomorrow to get the receipt from the safety deposit box." He didn't want to have to keep a safety deposit box for his rent receipts but the first time his payment was lost he couldn't find his receipt so had to pay the rent again. He had come to the conclusion that whoever had lost his payments had also entered his apartment and took the receipt.
He rode the elevator up and once in his apartment looked through the mail. He didn't have many bills fortunately and there were no letters from any other place where he owed money to. There were offers for magazine subscriptions, offers to switch car insurance, a free sample of lubricant for her (which he had to roll his eyes at), a free tampon (again he rolled his eyes), and something from a company that sounded like it might be one offering supernatural help in addition to what he had already noticed downstairs. With a little sigh he opened the envelope from the apartment management and found out that his rent had indeed been lost again though there was a note that his rent had gone up and he was expected to pay the increased rent. Well this was just too much. This had to stop so tomorrow he was going to call in to work so he'd have the whole day to get everything he had saved and get some help. This was definitely illegal and he had to put a stop to it. Maybe he'd end up owning the building.
With that settled he opened the envelope from the supernatural company and pulled out what looked like play money. It was probably some gimmick and read the letter that came with it. After reading it through he laughed and shook his head. "Boy are they stupid," he said still shaking his head. "They don't provide any way for me to return the Wishing Money or to tell them what I wished for." He looked at the Wishing Money on the table and smiled. "Well I can think of a few things that I would like to wish for. Maybe I should wish for something big just for kicks or maybe just small ones for myself. So what should I wish for?"
