Edward went through pages and pages of options, detailing thousands of modifications he could make including animals and inanimate objects he could take on characteristics of or become.
But being 12 he wasn't sure what he wanted, or even should want. He eventually wanted to get a car, a good job, maybe a wife and kids, but that was decades away and right now all he wanted was fun.
After getting through the section detailing earlobes under facial characteristics Edward realized that he needed a more organic method of modifying his traits if he was going to make any changes.
He found a section titled superpowers and looked through the list there were a ton of things listed though he remained focused, he didn't want to loose another 3 hours browsing everything in the page again as cool as aquakinesis sounded.
Edward finally found the traits he was looking for and selected them "copy" and "steal". After selecting these options he selected next and a details dialogue box popped up alerting him that more information is needed.
"Copy what? You may state 'object' to mean any object or you may be more specific like 'food' or 'popcorn', the same goes for 'traits' or 'attributes' of living beings."
As awesome as Edward thought it might be to have endless movie theater popcorn he entered "desired trait or desired attribute or desired lifestyle or desired status of desired subject to desired target"
Edward clicked next without an error message so apparently that was a valid entry. The next question was "Please define 'subject'"
"Self or living being I am touching"
"Please define 'target'" "Self or living being I am touching"
"Duration of copy?" "Permanent unless I dismiss"
"World's awareness of copy" "Determine on copy"
"Subject's awareness of copy" "Determine on copy"
"Target's awareness of copy" "Determine on copy"
"Your awareness of copy if not target or subject" "Determine on copy"
Edward was prompted with the same questions for his Steal ability and entered the same answers.
Clicking go the emitter flashed and then chirped that it was done, a second later the computer displayed that is was ready for the next change...
Edward closed the program, uninstalled it and hid the disk in the back bottom of his t-shirt drawer which hadn't been moved since mid summer and smelled like stale laundry detergent.
Now he can effectively copy or swap characteristics with someone he touches without any of that nasty clicking and reading business, he can dismiss a characteristic at will or even touch two people and swap their traits.
