"Are you crazy?" Erica sputtered. "What if someone sees us?"
"Well, it's not like they're going to recognize us like this," Kelly replied evenly. "Look, maybe there's a reason this happened. We won't figure it out just by sitting here. Besides, no one's going to be home for days. What do you want to do, hide in a corner until my parents get back?"
Kelly pleaded with her eyes, seeing her friend waver, despite Erica's doubts that Kelly was was really motivated by finding a way to become human again.
"Fine," Erica acquiesced. "But only for a little while."
Kelly bounded into the kitchen with Erica following. Knowing she couldn't reach the door knob, Kelly grabbed a stool and dragged it across the tile floor. Once it was under the handle, she easily climbed atop it and turned the door knob for the back door. As the door swung open, Kelly lightly jumped outside, but Erica hesitated.
"How're we going to get back in? We can't reach the knob," Erica asked. Sighing, Kelly reached inside and tipped the stool over the threshold. With some effort, she managed to right it on the outside of the door.
"There, now we can reach," Kelly stated impatiently. "Can we go now?"
Erica gave the house one more longing look, then followed Kelly into the night.
