Mary was still hesitant. On one hand, if it did work, she didn't want to be a complete dog. There was a "Human" vial, which she had secured when retrieving the "Dog" vial, but she didn't want to create a situation where she couldn't use it. On the other hand, if the vial didn't work, she didn't want to drink enough of the snake oil to make her ill. She decided the safest course of action was just to try a little bit of the vial. She uncapped the vial and took a few sips of the potion.
Mary quickly ran to her bathroom. She wanted to observe the changes in her mirror as they occurred. She stared in the mirror, brushing her short black hair out of the way of her blue eyes. She looked over her body with excitement .........but after several minutes there was still no visible change. When she caught sight of herself in the mirror while she was opening her jaw looking for a longer tongue or teeth, she realized how silly she looked. Embarrassed, and a little disappointed, she left the bathroom and returned to the kitchen.
She remembered that the potion had no odor or flavor. Probably just water, she thought. At least, I hope it was water.
She decided to make the best of the evening, and poured herself a nice glass of red wine to enjoy with a good movie. She curled up on the couch, and began to watch.
Mary was so engrossed in the movie, she did not notice as the potion slowly began to take effect. Her ears slowly became a little longer and wider, flattening the inner grooves. Her canines lengthened by a few centimeters, and her tongue became a little longer and flatter. Her fingernails became slightly longer and thicker.
Mary yawned as the movie ended. Oh well, she thought, at least it didn't make me sick. Mary went to the bathroom to prepare for bed and brush her teeth. As she looked in the mirror, she did a quick double take. She looked closely in the mirror and stuck out her tongue - it was definitely longer and her teeth seemed sharper and more canine. She brushed the hair off her ears and noted their changes with excitement. It works! she thought. She was a little disappointed that the changes were so small.
Well, it is a weekend, she thought. I have two more days to experiment. She retrieved the bottle and took a few more sips. She went to bed, but falling asleep was difficult. She could hardly wait to see what changes tomorrow would bring.
