Jenny started cleaning in the first room she could find outside the lab. It was large room, barred a large wooden door. The door was not locked, and opened was easily. She was immediately assaulted by a pungent odor. She guessed that this room had not been cleaned in some time. The room consisted of many cages of varying sizes. The cages were made of a strong durable metal, but the bars were covered by a layer of filth. All of the cages appeared empty, and she could not identify the source of the horrible smell. She grabbed her cleaning equipment, and began to clean the cages. As she worked through the cages, she noticed that the odor did not improve, and seemed to get stronger as she got closer to the far right corner of the room.
In the corner was a large cage that was not empty. Inside was a large reptile, about the size of a large dog. Around the cage were multiple chunks of rotting meat, the source of the smell. The animal was not moving, and appeared dead. Jenny moved closer to the cage. She had promised the Master she would clean the house, and by God she was going to do her best to please him. She knew if she was going to clean this room, she would have to clean that cage, and the first step was getting rid of all that meat. As she neared the cage, the animal still did not move. She grabbed a small wooden rod and gently prodded the beast, but it still did not move. She was almost sure it was dead, but she was still nervous. She reached her hand through the cage, and slowly began to remove the meat, trying to stay as far away from the animal as a possible. She was removing the third piece of beef when it suddenly sprang to life, grabbing her left wrist in its mouth. She shook her hand violently, but the animal refused to let go. In a panic, she grabbed the wooden rod in her right hand, and beat the lizard about the head until it released her wrist.
She backed away from the cage, rubbing her wrist. The animal's teeth had pierced her skin, but other than the pinprick marks of its teeth there was little damage to her arm. She looked back at the cage. The beast was motionless again; staring dumbly ahead. She was not sure is she had killed it, or if was just feigning death again. She was debating her next course of action when Artie rushed in.
"Quickly, drink this, " he shouted, shoving a small vial with a pink liquid towards her. Artie saw the apprehension in Jenny's face. "It will save your life! The compound we inhaled was a type of poison, and this is the antidote. Drink it quickly!"
Remembering his earlier kindness, Jenny drank the compound. Thank god, thought Artie, our troubles are over.
