"The princess in the book is not from the kingdom of men, you see. She is an Elf, and as such we'll make a few minor modifications to fit her features." The lady pointed a finger at Beth and suddenly her ears started hurting, as if they were being stretched out, feeling like they were being twisted to a point. At any rate, her hearing seemed to be improving a bit. When the feeling stopped, Beth moved a hand up to her ear and felt that it was much longer than it used to be, ending in a point instead of a curve.
"I'm not done with you yet though", proclaimed the lady, "apart from a few physical adjustments, you shall also have the powers of the Elves. Therefore, you have from this day forward natural immortality and the ability to wield the power of magic." Beth looked puzzled. "Magic?", she asked, not sure what the lady was hinting at. "Yes dear, as an Elven princess you have it in your blood to control astral forces. To demonstrate, concentrate on that tree over there and want it to be a shrub." Beth did as the lady asked, and a soft blue glow surrounded the tree as it seemed to shrink, shrink, shrink...until little more than foliage was left."
"There you have it", said the lady, "the power of magic. Use it with care, and have fun with your eternal life. I'll be going now..." Beth exclaimed "wait, I don't even know who you--" as she turned around to speak to the lady, but she was not there, as if she vanished into thin air.
