"Dammit Samantha, how can you not alert us that we had normal humans moving in with children who would be enrolling here?! Thank god my secretary sniffed them out and I was able to get the teachers notified who then notified the children so nothing got spilled!" asked the school Principal, a middle aged woman named Joan. Joan had short black hair and a tan complexion. She was dressed nice in a skirt, blouse and jacket.
"Relax Joan, my office is on top of it. The University notified me as soon as they made their hiring decision. My assistant was supposed to notify the school. Clearly that fell through the cracks and I will be having a terse word with her when I get back to the office. I apologize Joan, I should have taken care of it myself."
Joan collapsed into her desk chair. "It's all right. We got it handled and in the end that's what matters. But you need to meet with them tonight because I don't know how much longer this town can keep a lid on it."
"I was already planning on it. I should've done it last night, but I got their move in dates mixed up," replied Samantha.
"Again, it's all right. We just need to take this as a teaching moment and strive to do better in the future," replied Joan.
"Well, that's very mature. Thanks Joan."
"You're welcome."
Samantha stood up and walked to the door, giving Joan a friendly wave goodbye. As she walked into the main office, she saw Ben sitting in one of the chairs in the waiting area. He stood up as soon as he saw her.
"Ben! You're not in trouble are you?" she asked.
"Nope! I heard you were on campus and thought I'd stop by and say hi." said Ben.
"And why aren't you in class, my darling son?" asked Samantha.
"Because it's my free period." Ben smiled smugly.
"Free period. That's right. Hey, I saw you talking to one of the new kids. What's he like?" asked Samantha.
"He's nice. I think we have an ally. I caught him reading a book on werewolves."
"That would be helpful. Maybe he'd like to be one. At least one member of their family has to agree to be turned or else...well, I don't want to think about that."
"Do you want me to come tonight?" asked Ben.
"If you don't mind. It might help with the kids to see a familiar face."
"Okay, I will." Ben gave his mom a hug and then let her go.
"I have to get back to work." She waved goodbye and they both walked out of the office. Ben watched as she walked out of the school and back to her car. He let out a deep sigh as he knew it was hard for her to tell the normal families the truth about their town and then tell them they had to join or else. He turned and walked back to study hall.
