Luke headed back to the sales clerk, amazed at how different things looked. Besides being shorter, he also seemed to have better eyesight. Colors were brighter and things looked super sharp. The Great Dane padded after him, tongue lolling out. The sales clerk looked up as they approached. "Sorry. I forgot to reserve the costume. Unless the guy stays a dog, you can have the costume when he changes back."
Luke grinned. "Oh, the kid got the Great Dane costume. Then he tore up my clothes and I put his on. Didn't think they would change me, but it's pretty cool being a kid."
The sales clerk stared at them a moment. "The dog tore up your clothes, and then you put on his?"
Luke saw the sudden concern in the man's face. "Uh, yeah. Is that a problem?"
"Could be." The sales clerk shook his head and sighed. "He became the dog, and you became him. But he tore up your clothes. The way things work in the costume area, that could mean he tore up your old identity, and you are stuck as him. Which means he is stuck as a dog. We won't know for 36 hours, and if either of you decides you like your new life and doesn't change, the other is stuck anyway."
That should have made Luke worry, but he really felt great being Danny Simms. Huh? He knew the boy's... his name.
The clerk smiles slightly. "You'll have the boy's memories coming in now. Just like he feels natural as a dog. You both will know who you were before, but the longer you stay dog and boy, the more you'll be used to being a dog and a boy. The good thing is that if you end up stuck, you won't really mind, because it will seem like the normal way of things."
