It was awkward settling in to her new life, of course, but nonetheless, Danielle managed to do it. The first few months were spent with her adoptive mother giving her a crash-course in the local customs, traditions, and manners. "Well, you should probably get used to it," was an exceptionally common phrase in her new home, applicable to everything from wearing dresses to attending annoying social functions expected of the daughter of an upper-class family, even if she was adopted. All minor inconveniences, really, and she learned to enjoy the social aspects. Being female and being treated as such, however, was taking a lot more getting used to. She suspected she'd never quite get accustomed to the feeling of having her hand kissed or being escorted by these rather chivalrous fox-men. Though in the case of Rick, who visited regularly, she'd come to rather enjoy his company. To no one's great surprise, it had blossomed into the obvious beginnings of a romance.
As time passed, Danielle concluded that she should study magic, if only to figure out if there was a way to get back home. Her new parents encouraged her studies, and with her enthusiasm she progressed quickly, managing to learn basic spells - though nothing more impressive than healing small cuts and other such "common" magic. Danielle's grasp of the theory was sound, but she just couldn't do advanced magic.
Then she turned eighteen. As it turned out, Kat had lied, quite massively, about Danielle never gaining the family power. Danielle could feel it when her innate power unlocked. Suddenly, huge new vistas of magic opened up for her. Soon enough, she'd mastered basic transformation - meaning, of course, that she could become male again whenever she felt like it. Then Rick proposed, and Danielle accepted. Much to her own surprise, the choice to marry him - and stay female - wasn't even hard. She'd gotten used to it after all, and more importantly, she'd found her soul mate. As she said her vows and kissed her new husband, she silently thanked Kat for this beautiful life.
Danielle continued her studies, of course, and she made good money offering healing and appearance-altering services. Not to mention, Rick continued running his parents' rather nice plantation. With her power and talent growing rapidly, in a happy marriage, with a fantastic lifestyle, Danielle could see only endless potential. The real question was, what now?
