Still in shock, staring at her image, Evelyn whispered, "What did you do to me?"
"Me? " said Mary Lou with a little indignation. "What makes you think I had anything to do with it? I'm the 'pet' around here, remember."
Evelyn turned and gave her a dirty look. "Well, you're the one trying to escape. And I certainly wouldn't want to look this hideous."
"Hideous? " spat Mary Lou. " What makes you think humans look so great? I certainly didn't want to look more look like you hairless monkeys, but I always wanted to escape. And I will use any advantage I can to get out of here."
"No, " said Evelyn. "We need to wait here. My boyfriend, Adam, will be back soon. He can help."
Mary Lou smirked.
"Okay, maybe not directly. But the veterinarians... They can use science to help us, " pleaded Evelyn.
"Really?" said Mary Lou. "Do you honestly think they have the power and knowledge to reverse this. And if they can't, what do you think will happen to us? Do you think they will they let us go free, maybe breed in the wild? Or do you think they will they keep us trapped here forever, as some part of some horrible laboratory experiment?"
Evelyn's face dropped, and Mary Lou knew she had gotten to her. "Or better yet, maybe they will display you in the zoo? I hear there is an opening in the alligator exhibit."
"But I' m human, " said Evelyn sadly.
Mary Lou walked up to Evelyn and turned her so that they were both once again looking into the mirror. "Not anymore, " said Mary Lou.
Evelyn looked into the mirror for a long time. "Okay, " she finally said. "Let's get out of here. We can figure out how to fix this later."
Mary Lou smiled and clapped here hands loudly. "Excellent, sister, you won't be sorry. I promise. Now, how do we get out of here?"
