"Come on, let's go to the arcade" Anthony said with a wide grin. "I always wanted to play some games like the kids do. Now I've got a chance."
Emily looked at her former husband. "I guess since we're going out, we'll have to pretend to be siblings now, huh?"
Jennifer looked at both her parents. "Right, and I get to be the mom, so you two gotta listen and behave."
Emily and Anthony looked at one another. For the first time they realized what this role reversal might mean. Their daughter was now a grown up even though she was still just a kid mentally.
"Okay, fine," Emily huffed.
"Fine what?" Jennifer asked.
"Fine .... Mom," Anthony repeated.
"Good!" Jennifer grinned to herself.
"Well come on, let's go!" Anthony said, moving to the door. Emily was just behind but JEnnifer caught their arms.
"Wait, aren't you forgetting something, you don't have any shoes."
Both "kids" looked to their stocking feet. It was true their old shoes hadn't changed with them.
"But we dont have any that will fit." Emily complained.
Jennifer thought a moment and went over to the closet. Inside were dozens of different kinds of sneakers, along with some instructions. She picked it up and read it to herself. "For your convenience, these are for your new 'children' what they wear will determine the mindset they gain."
Emily and Anthony looked at all the shoes. "What's the note say?"
Jennifer crumpled it up. She wanted to see what her parents would do. "Nothing, just that they're for you guys. Go on and try some on."
