Kyle placed the hat on his head, and was immediately assaulted by what felt like a million thoughts at once. He felt dizzy, and closed his eyes. It was exactly as Beryl had described it - a thousand images raced by. As he tried to focus on one, it zipped by, quickly replaced by another fast image. He was so lost in his thoughts, he did not notice the changes to his head. His hair darkened to raven black, and lengthened slightly into a short bob hairstyle. His nose shrank to a small button shape, and his face became smaller, less angular and softer.
Slowly, Kyle began to get better at viewing the images, and came to understand that they were memories. He saw childhood events he had shared with Beryl - Christmas, Birthdays. He felt very disoriented as he saw the events from both his and her perspectives. As the images continued, he saw more of Beryl's memories. Her first kiss, her sixteenth birthday, learning to drive. He experienced them all, just as if he had always been Beryl. He grew a little more uncomfortable as the memories got more personal. Beryl exploring her developing body for the first time, her first date, her first sexual experience with a boy. Kyle opened his eyes and tried to push the memories back into his subconscious. He looked around the room, but didn't see Beryl. Just before he opened his eyes, he thought he heard her whisper good luck to him. He couldn't be sure if it was true, but he hoped so.
Kyle looked at the clock , and saw that he needed to hurry if he was going to make it to the test in time. Armed with Beryl's memories, he found it surprisingly easy to groom himself for school, and make himself presentable as a woman.
I have to be careful, or I might lose myself into this, thought Kyle with a little fear, as he ran to his car and headed off to school.
