Darryl jumps up, his teenage face reddening in anger. "Like hell you are! If you think you can just throw me in here and run off you've got another thing coming!"
Francis' adult face takes on a dangerous glower. "Do you really want to try me, little man?"
Darryl steps toward his now-adult son. "Francis, if you are Francis, I don't know what's happened here, but it's not normal. We have to fix this. I'm still you're father. You need to listen to me!"
Francis sneers as his body tenses up. Clearly Darryl has hit a nerve.
Before things can get ugly, you pull out the Age Changer 3000. Changing their ages would take too long. But, there is one setting that is instantaneous. Being sure that Darryl is the one being targeted, you tap the "Reality" button.
As always, you feel a strange pulse emanate from the remote as reality is rearranged. Both Francis and Darryl look confused for a moment, but you can tell all tension has drained from their faces. Darryl relaxes and takes a couple steps back before sitting at the foot of his bed.
Darryl sighs. "I'm sorry, Dad."
Francis shakes his head, still off-kilter from the effect. "What did you say?"
"I said I'm sorry. You have every right to ground me. I was... I was being stupid."
Francis puts a hand to his forehead and rubs it. He looks to have a headache. "Yeah. Sure. Fine." He looks up at you. "Uhm, could I talk to you for a second?"
You and Francis both leave the room, leaving Darryl all by himself.
Still rubbing his head, Francis turns to you. "What the hell was that?"
You shrug, relieved more than anything you wouldn't have to see an incredibly one-sided fight between a 35-year-old Francis and his teenage father. "I pressed the reality button."
Francis rubs his eyes. "The what?"
"It changes reality so it's as if the changes had always been like that. Francis, are you alright?"
He nods blearily. "Yeah, I think so. It's just... It's so weird. It's like I have two sets of memories. I remember Darryl being my father, but I also remember him being my son. Is that weird? That sounds weird."
You shrug again. "I targeted your dad specifically. Normally, I don't think you would remember the old reality. Are you going to be alright or not?"
Francis stops rubbing his temples and nods. "Yeah, I think it's going away." He glances at the nearby refrigerator and pulls a photograph off its surface. "Trippy."
He hands you a photo of his family. It seemed that even in the photo that Francis and Darryl had switched places. Francis takes it back and grins as he rubs his goatee. "Damn, I look good. You should try it."
You roll your eyes and put the photo back on the fridge. "Maybe later. Hey, maybe we should go change your dad back. Fun is fun, but I'd hate to just leave him like that."
Francis chuckles and puts a heavy hand on your shoulder, restraining you. "Oh, I don't think so. He's none the wiser, he can stay like that for a little while. You and me, though, let's have some fun with that remote of yours."
