Luke eyed the Boy Scout uniform. It was complete with the hat, neckerchief, polished black shoes, and even matching socks and a sash with merit badges. A patch on the shoulder read 'Boy Scout Jamboree 1956'. From the size, he'd guess the kid who wore it was about 15 or 16, and he must have been really active to earn all those merit badges. Well, the retro look was in - short hair was popular again. He pulled on the pants, going commando since there were no underpants. Then he got the socks and shirt on, and managed to get all the accessories in place. As he pulled on the hat, Luke felt dizzy and disorientated, then the uniform pulled itself into place as he suddenly grew to fit it.
"Gosh!" Luke stared down at himself. "Do I look OK?" He saw a mirror behind the clerk, who was grinning at him. "Excuse me, sir." Luke stepped around and stared at his reflection. He was about 16, blonde haired and blue eyed, a handsome boy who looked athletic and healthy. He had big braces on his teeth, but they sorta looked right. Luke tugged absently at his merit badge sash, getting it lined up. Then he frowned. The mirror showed the clerk and Great Dane behind him, but they looked shadowy now, like ghosts. And the store showed up in the mirror as a big old-fashioned hardware store. It was also shadowy, but getting clearer.
A calendar on the shadowy wall got easier to read - May 1957. If he kept the costume on, he was going back in time!
