Evelyn began to tell Kim all about the shampoo. How they had bought it at a regular pet store, how it had unexpectedly turned them into hybrids, and how a second use had caused her to become a full alligator. Mary Lou didn't try to stop her. There was no point in telling lies now. But she did try to smooth some of the rough edges. She explained about her mistreatment at the Zoo and how she had just wanted her freedom. She did leave out a few details, such as her relationship with Adam. She claimed she was just teasing Evelyn about the sex stuff. She even lied about how she had planned to come back and fix Evelyn, but Kim had beaten her to it.
"So, where is the rest of the shampoo?" asked Kim.
Mary Lou smiled. She had seen how Kim responded when Evelyn talked about how she had transformed into a full alligator after a second dose. Did this girl want to go all the way? Or maybe she just wanted to make herself a little bit better, like when Mary Lou and Evelyn were half alligator instead of just a third.
"Well, I don't have any here. I thought I found all of it. I had no idea a bottle had rolled under a shelf. The rest is back at our apartment, " said Mary Lou.
"OUR apartment? You mean MY apartment? The one I share with my boyfriend, Adam," said Evelyn angrily.
"Well what was I supposed to do? If I moved out he would have been suspicious. I had to act like you, and live like you, " said Mary Lou. "Don't get too upset. It wasn't that much fun for me, either. You are a very boring person, and your life is kind of dull."
"Well it's better than living like an animal in a cage!" yelled Evelyn.
"That's exactly what I was trying to tell you before!" yelled Mary Lou.
"And that better have been limited to just sharing my food and bed. If you did anything with Adam..." threatened Evelyn.
"What! You'll do what? Bring it on! I am ready, " said Mary Lou, as she advanced towards Evelyn. Evelyn snarled, and prepared to attack.
"GIRLS! GIRLS! This fighting is getting us nowhere!" said Kim, as she separated the two again. "If we are going to get out of this mess, we need to work together. And the first thing we need to do is secure that shampoo. Can you guys at least behave yourselves until we can do that?"
Evelyn and Mary Lou backed off, glumly nodding their agreement.
"Okay, then. Now the shampoo is at your apartment. Any idea how we can get there, looking like this?" asked Kim.
"I know. We can take the sewers!" said Evelyn.
Kim shook her head. "We wouldn't have any idea where we were going. It would be like a maze down there. And I'm not even sure if we would fit."
"Yeah, that's a stupid idea, " said Mary Lou proudly.
Evelyn hissed, and began to attack.
"Stop it, " said Kim angrily. "Jesus, you can't stop fighting for even a minute."
"I know, " said Mary Lou. "Why don't we just call my boyfriend, Adam? He can come pick us up. Or maybe even bring the shampoo."
"He is MY boyfriend, " said Evelyn angrily. "And that is a stupid idea, too. How will you explain how we look? Or even how we sound on the phone, you idiot? "
Before they could fight again, Kim interrupted. "I think she may be right. It is probably best not to involve anyone else unless we really need to. What if he didn't believe us and called the authorities? Or if he lost the shampoo? Or if he had an accident with the shampoo on the way here?"
Kim looked at the employee lockers. "We still look mostly human. With some baggy clothes, we might be able to disguise ourselves. It's pretty late, and there shouldn't be many people out. If anyone gets too curious we can just say its some kind of costume. It will be a long walk, but I think we can make it to your apartment before dawn."
The girls sat in silence, considering their options.
"Okay, let's take a vote. Majority wins, " said Kim.
