"I don't have to think on it" answered Ameline. "I know Ancient Egyptian mythology doesn't have much on relationships between humans and gods, but you know enough Greek mythology to know how those usually turn out. I love you, but I was trying to think how to break up without making you mad, because how could I protect myself from an angry goddess. But if I were a goddess myself we would be equals again."
"You were really afraid of me?" said Julia, puzzled and hurt.
"Sweetheart, you're the goddess of death. Of course I was afraid of you. Do you think anybody isn't?"
The goddess of death was fighting back tears. "I hate the thought of you being afraid of me. Are you ready to accept the divine power, to be the protector of the family, to be the goddess of love and cats?"
"Of course I am sweetheart." Ameline gave a tiny chuckle. "You think there's a lesbian in the world who wouldn't jump at the chance of becoming goddess of cats?"
I couldn't see what happened, but I felt the surging of divine power.
