It was a few days later when Emily remembered glimpsing Janet with the strange device in her hands and wondering where exactly she got the toy. Between the movie and coming down with the flu, she had practically totally forgotten. But she was feeling mostly better, and bored with her own toys. She was alone at home with just Monique and the dog, Odysseus. It seemed like the most obvious thing in the world to go to the closet and fish out Janet's secrets chest. She shushed Odysseus as he nuzzled her, "Quiet Odie, don't let Monique hear us." She giggled a bit and then leaned in close, saying Janet's secret phrase, "Huggy Bear", into the lock. She had to do the weird funny groan Janet did, but they were the same after all.
Her small delicate hand circled around the smooth plastic of the Chornivac emitter as she pulled it out of the box. The box went back in its spot, locked up tight again, and she turned it in her hands. "What do you think it is Odie? It looks kinda like a remote. Or one of those laser guns from that show dad likes with the wrinkly forehead guys!" She wheeled, stocking clad feet planted as she pointed the emitter at Odie, "Set lasers to sun, Odie!" She pressed down on one of the many buttons, letting out a pair of excited, "Pew pew!" noises as she did.
