"Wait, guys, if we got put here with magic, don't you know what that means?" Logan asked.
"The rest of the stuff in that shop was magic." Will said, his eyes widening, "There was a spellbook! I could have wizard powers right now!"
"Yeah, but these are magic too," Logan said, waving his hand and producing his hand of cards.
"Ooh, what should I try first?" Rebeca asked.
"I'll go with this," Cal said, picking one event card out of his hand. As he touched it, it disappeared. A large, yellow, ethereal version of it appeared in front of the group. It read:
Race: Minotaur
Cannot get lost
Any two handed item (excluding ranged weapons) only require one hand
"So, what does that actually mean?" Gabe asked.
Before he could get an answer, Cal grew to over seven feet tall, muscles stretching out to make his once loose varsity jacket tight. His shoes practically exploded as hooves grew into them, and the rest of him was covered in a thin coat of fur. His face pressed out into a snout as horns grew from his forehead. As the transformation finished, Cal breathed out heavilly, shaking his head.
"Well, that was a hell of a way to do that," he said.
"That looked like it hurt," Will said.
"Not really. It just felt weird. Like, you know that pin prick feeling before your foot goes numb? Imagine that everywhere," Cal said.
"Welp, now I really have to try this," Rebeca said, flicking one of the cards in her hand, causing it to disappear and become its ethereal purple display. It showed:
Class: Monk
+2 in combat for each hand with no item in it
May reroll once when escaping
Less dramatic than Cal's transformation, Rebeca's tank top showed that she became slightly more muscular, and hand wraps appeared arond her right hand and forearm.
"Well, still awesome," Rebeca said.
Another ethereal card appeared, this one green and reading:
Goggles of Grog
Headgear
+1 in combat
Bonus not effective against opponents whose gender the bearer is attracted to
The group turned around to see Logan standing slackjawed and staring at them with a pair of goggles that appeared to be frothing at the top. Logan pushed the goggles onto his forehead, then brought them back down over his eyes, then repeated this for several seconds before settling for leaving them resting on his forehead.
"Dang. You guys are a lot hotter with these on," he said.
"What?" Gabe said, stepping behind Rebeca.
"Here," Logan said, taking off the goggles and pressing them against Gabe's face. The kid went pale as he looked at Rebeca, then pulled away and pushed the goggles back to Logan.
"Yep, awesome. Anyone else wanna try?" Logan asked, putting the goggles back on before anyone could answer.
"Let's just keep going," Will said, looking at the cards in his hand before waving his hand and causing them to disappear.
"Nothing useful?" Rebeca asked.
"Nothing useful yet," Will said, cracking a smile and walking down the road.
