Hungry?

added by The Brilliant Dr. Garfield 7 years ago O

"Yeah! If I remember correctly, there's a door to the kitchen in the entrance hall." Leona says as she helps you to your feet. "But I went in there before I was frozen, so I don't remember exactly which door it was. Say, I never found out how long I was frozen. Is Lyndon B. Johnson still the president?" she asks with total sincerity. Looking at her in shock, you quickly nod your head, deciding not to burden her with such a huge revelation at this time. "Yeah. Of course he is." You say. "Now, how about getting some food? I'll bet you're hungry too."

Leona nods. "Yeah. It's been ages since I've had a bite." You two begin to walk down the passageway the way you came. "There used to be this burger stand right down the road from my house. On hot summer days-" -you two turn the corner - "-me and my sister Coleen would walk down to it and get these huge shakes. They were so good. It tasted like heaven, if you know what I mean." As you two turn the second corner and begin walking down the stairs, you smile sheepishly and say, "Wow, I've never wanted a milkshake more in my entire life." Your stomach rumbles loudly again as your feet and Leona's paws hit the last step of the naga-carved staircase.

Leona seems to be biting her lip. "Hmmm. I don't remember if it's on the right side or the left." You look to the right wall, the one with the huge (now torn from your adventure) painting. There's only three doors on that side, and they're all closed, but light is coming out from under the crack of one of them. On the left wall (with the doorway where you saw the eyes) is about twelve doors, seven of them open and dark, two of them closed and dark, and the remaining three closed with light coming out from under the cracks. "Well, would it make more sense for the kitchen to be light or dark?" you ask. "Uh, if I remember right, the kitchen was lit up." Leona says. "I guess we should try the... left side first." You say, marching towards the first closed lit-up door. "Here. You check a few of the dark ones." You tell Leona. Nodding, she pads over to the nearest open dark doorway and peers in.

Opening the first door, you are greeted by an unpleasant sight: a torture chamber of some kind. Racks, an iron maiden, hooks, and various other items of torture line the walls and lie on the floor. Stepping into the room cautiously, you walk over to the iron maiden and see that it has the head of a wolf instead of a woman. Opening the rusty door, you are repulsed to see not tons of tiny spikes, but two gigantic needles dripping a thick grey goop on the inside of the doors. That must be a painful way to transform. All of the racks are labeled with different mythical creatures: "Nepean Lion", "Troll", and "Black Dog" you read off as you look at the three nearest ones. Deciding you've had enough of this place, you quickly hasten out.

"Hey, I found it!" you hear Leona call as you step out. Looking to the left, you see her three doors down, pointing into a brightly-lit room. "Thank god. I'm starving." You repeat for the umpteenth time tonight. Smiling, you follow her into the room. It's a large, stone-floored room with a huge stone fireplace across the room from you. There's a wooden table in front of the fireplace with a bowl of relatively fresh looking fruit on it. There are cupboards lining the walls, some of them open, but bare. A door to the right is open, and in the darkness you can make out a few shelves; that must be the pantry.

"You want to check the pantry? I'll check the cupboards." Leona says, padding over to the cupboards. "Yeah. Sure." You say, heading over to the dark pantry. Snatching a torch off of a nearby holder, you walk in. A huge metal shelf, like a rack in a bakery shop, lines the right wall of the long-lengthwise, but short width-wise room. You eagerly snatch a medium-sized plastic bag off of the first shelf, but are surprised to see dog food in it, not something humans would eat. Sighing in disappointment, you continue your search. You come across a jug of fresh milk, a few hard-boiled eggs, a slab of cooked bacon, a few apples, a cooked steak, a loaf of bread, a sugar skull, a fur-covered tail belonging to some kind of creature and a few bloody bones with bits of flesh hanging from it. Gathering all these up (even the dog food), you step out of the pantry with the huge load and stumble as you walk towards the table in front of the fireplace.

"Wow, you had better luck than me!" Leona says, holding up a single potato and a can of tuna. You two are so hungry that you fail to realize that this food is relatively modern, which means it was put here very recently. You two are about to dig in when a terrible thought hits your mind. "Wait! Stop!" you yell to Leona as she picks up the loaf of bread. Puzzled, she puts the bread down and watches you. Thinking about it, you realize whoever created this castle obviously had transformation in mind. Looking back at your wings and looking at Leona's snake, lioness body, and horns, you shiver. Who's to say that these foods don't cause transformations as well?

Suddenly, a creaking noise comes from behind you. Turning, you see that A broom sitting in a corner has somehow fallen onto the wall next to it, causing it to swing out, revealing a secret passageway. If the broom hadn't fallen, you wouldn't've known it was there, as the door looks like it was part of the wall. Putting your finger to your lips, Leona nods. You sneak over with your torch, the transformative sword hanging from your belt, torch in right hand, and peer into the secret passage. All you see are stairs leading up. There are no lights in here, and, looking up the dark stairwell, you hear a thinking and creaking noise every now and then. Shivering, you walk backwards out of the stairwell, not wanting to know if it was just the castle settling or someone (or something) walking down the stairs.

You hear chewing behind you. Turning in horror, you see Leona holding an item of food from the table. She smiles guiltily. "What? I was hungry." She says sheepishly. She then swallows and puts the food down. Suddenly, her stomach rumbles loudly and she puts her hands on the table. "Oh, I don't feel so good..." she moans as you eye, with horror, at what she has taken a bite of.
