Thankfully, the dark corridor before you is empty, at least that is the first thought that crosses your mind. However, the itching from your chest is growing more insistent, and you can almost feel new fur poking its way out of your skin. Soon, you won't be able to hide this. Luckily, at the moment, Leona is more occupied with what lies before her.
"Did you see which button got pushed," she whispers to you but keeps her eyes on the hallway, still reluctant to step off the elevator. You shake your head.
"I think we'd better get off anyway," you reply. "For all we know, Hardin controls this thing. After all, it's running on electricity too." Leona nods, then takes her first wary steps off the elevator. You follow her lead, staying a step behind her. The dim light does nothing for your nerves, which are thoroughly rattled, and your skin irritation is getting worse by the second. A sudden clank breaks into your thoughts as the elevator door unexpectedly closes behind you and Leona, causing you both to jump, and plunging the hallway into near darkness. For a moment, neither of you dare breathe, let alone move. There is a very dim light from the other end of the corridor, which you would not have noticed had the elevator illumination not been doused. It allows you and Leona to see bare outlines of walls and each other, but not details.
"What do we do now?" Leona hisses, obviously trembling. You'd like to know that yourself.
"Well, there's no way to go back," you state pithily, scratching your chest. "First things first, let's try to find some light, and then figure out where we are." The mad maze of the elevator had taken you in so many different directions that you had lost your bearings, and you were no longer certain where in the castle you were, let alone which floor.
As the two of you creep forward, you find you are gradually having an easier time seeing. You attribute it to nearing the light source, and quicken your steps a bit. Leona follows, but still slow and wary, seemingly unsure. You pass several doorways, some with shut doors, but you have no desire to explore them in the dark, although you detect no motion within as you pass. Finally, you reach the end of the hallway and peek around a corner. It appears the light is not coming from a torch in the hallway, but rather spilling out from a doorway located around that corner. By this point Leona has caught up to you, and a finger to your lips cautions her to be silent. The two of you tiptoe around the corner and carefully peek through the doorway.
Thankfully, the room appears empty, although it offers no windows nor any clue as to where you are in the castle. There are several objects in the room, however. In a corner, you spot a closed chest. On the stone floor, a rather fancy plush rug. Hanging on the walls are various tapestries with patterns you assume are coat-of-arms, as well as strange mandelas and odd writing. On the other side, you spot a closed door, as well as a rather antique display case. The entire room is well-lit and oddly inviting.
"Well, it seems safe," Leona grins, padding gratefully into the room. "I'll never take light for granted again!" As you follow her in, she turns smiling to you for your response. However, her face contorts quickly when she catches sight of you. At first, she gasps, then nearly shrieks. Her horror turns more to confusion when she spots your wings, confirming it is still you. "What happened to you?" she exclaims. "Your chest, your eyes..!" You cringe at the mention of your chest, realizing the fur has spread from the cuts to create a soft downy layer across your torso, but frown at the mention of your eyes.
"What's wrong with my eyes?" you ask worriedly.
"They're...they're glowing!" Leona sharply inhales. "And your ears!" Not able to take the uncertainty any longer, you rush over to the display case. Although it is glass and not a mirror, it is reflective enough for you to see yourself, and what you spot takes your breath away. Your chest is definitely furry, although at the moment it has not spread much further than your chest, and doesn't appear to be continuing to spread. However, your eyes are no longer their normal color, but are decidedly yellow, and in the right light, reflective. Suddenly, the improved sight in the hallway begins to make sense to you. You turn your head slightly, and realize that your ears, while still placed in their normal positions, are now slightly extended and pointed at the tips. A sneaking suspicion growing on you, you open your mouth to see that your incisors have lengthened and sharpened a bit.
"It must have been from that werewolf," you sigh, irritated at your carelessness. "He caught me across the chest with his claws," you continue explaining at Leona's anxoius look. "But don't worry, he didn't bite me...although I'm not sure if that matters in this place," you scowl. "Anyway, I don't think I'm becoming a werewolf; when I saw that guy change it was a helluva lot quicker and more dramatic. Maybe it's some type of partial change, like a mutation being spread throughout my body. I dunno, maybe having wings already attached changed the way it spread too," you hypothesize, trying to figure out what's going on.
"Well, as long as you don't try to rip me apart," Leona says doubtfully, but seems to accept your explanation. You, of course, don't mention that if the change is in fact being spread throughout your body, there's no telling how much you might gradually change over time. You'll cross that bridge when you come to it. Besides, maybe you can find someone relatively normal-looking to switch forms with before the change becomes a nuisance. You'll miss the wings, but not if it means a chance to be all-human again.
