"Master, as a humble suggestion, should we not begin to study the arcane book you had achieved from your trip?" You suggest politely.
"Wise thinking Wraith, while you still do not have any experience in magic we will study the book together, as we read it you will tell me what you do and do not understand."
"Very well Master. I look forward to having my first experience with dark magic."
"Then let us begin." Master Harauphar says casually.
Master Harauphar pulls up a chair from the table and sits down making himself comfortable. Then reaching into his satchel, you see him pull out the dark spell book from his satchel. You shiver as it's exposed out in the open, nearly instantly feeling the potent dark energy it emitted.
You jump onto the table stool beside your Master and sit down like a dog, waiting quietly for him to begin.
Slowly Master Harauphar opens the book, and you swore you could hear the sound of a million souls gasping in agony as the book opens. You look to the pages and already you've become overwhelmed. The letters were not stationary like in a ordinary book, instead they constantly shifted into new shapes and patterns, nothing was the same, sentences appeared for only a second, pictures and graphs distorted into images your mind couldn't even comprehend. You felt a incredible headache push itself on your head. You groan slightly as the pain increases and you try your best to keep your eyes open as your mind screams for you to look away from the book.
You force yourself to keep looking, the images and word becoming worse and now were starting to form into the shapes of monsters and nightmares beyond your world. Your heart nearly stops for a second and you give a large scream before looking away from the accursed book, gasping in deep heavy breaths, a small amount of blood starting to drop from your nose.
You hear the book close and you see Master Harauphar stare at you quietly, looking at you with an inquisitive look.
"You handled that well, only a fool would try to open a book this powerful as their first time." He says judgingly.
"Was that supposed to happen?" You say between heavy gasps.
"Of course, there's a reason this is called Dark Magic, even inexperienced demons would suffer at the effects of a powerful book like this one." Master Harauphar says
"Was this my first lesson? To show the risks of magic?" You ask, the Headache and pain now fading away, though you couldn't get the image of the book's nightmarish texts out of your mind... and yet you feel yourself wanting to read it again, knowing the immense pain you'll feel while reading it.
"Correct, dark magic is not some children's toy to play with, Either you become strong and become it's master or you will become a slave to it's energy. No doubt you feel yourself wanting to continue reading that book, dark magic is addictive, once you get a taste, you can't help but want more, even if you know you'll die in the process."
"So this means I failed? Have I already succumbed to the effects of dark magic too early?" You ask, looking down at yourself I. Thought. Were you in over your head trying to learn this?
"Not at all, in fact, a normal man probably would've screamed their head out and get knocked unconscious trying to read this book, you however only screamed once, which might sound bad but it is in fact a sign of your potential." Master Harauphar explains, in a approving tone, which is something rare to come from him.
"Thank you Master, but how do I stop myself from falling victim to it's effects?" You ask, you certainly didn't want to become a magic addict, especially if that means you would die from it, which would also mean your master's death as well.
"That is simple, your mind must be sharpened and fortified, a warlock going through a mental crisis is worse than a raving madman casting spells, dark magic searches for weak points in your mind, places where it can spread its influence, for now the experience you felt right now is nothing to worry about, you should be fine within a day and the effects of the dark magic will fade quickly, however if you look at this book again today, the addiction will spread deeper into your mind." Master Harauphar says, warning you of what can happen if you let yourself go to the darkness.
"I see, so the addiction will fade in time, but each time I succumb to the dark magic, the addiction will return, lasting longer and coming back stronger than ever, and if I let myself go completely the addiction will be permanent for the rest of my life, turning me into a crazed madman?" You say, clarifying what your Master said.
"Correct, now go get some rest, even on your first day, the fact that you managed to keep your eyes on the book for over ten seconds means you have much potential." Master Harauphar says.
"Very well Master, I will rest for now, then awake later in the day." You say, feeling pleased with the outcome of this session.
