No rest for the weary

added by AlanSmithee 6 years ago O

A sudden bright flash lit the room, blinding Derrick and startling him. He jumped off the bed and reached for his bow, ready to attack. But as his vision returned he saw that he was still alone. The only thing that seemed different was the table - a small scroll was laying on the tabletop, still smoking a little.

Derrick moved forward to read it. He was a little disappointed to find that it was his list of chores. A short note from the receptionist was attached.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Dear Derrick,

Thank you again for agreeing to partake in the unique experience of the Ranger suite. As I have explained, this room has certain requirements that must be met in order to remain an occupant. You may think of them as chores, but the management likes to think of them as entertaining 'quests'. Regardless, you must try to complete a least one item from the list every day. You may choose any quest, and the quests will be updated daily. If you have any questions, please refer to the books provided in your room for answers about wildlife, creatures and customs. Thank you again for your help and please enjoy your stay!'

Guess there is no rest for the weary, thought Derrick with a sigh. He scanned the list, hoping to find an easy task that he could complete quickly. The list was longer than he expected, with many entries.

Must need more help than I thought, mused Derrick as he perused the list.

He read through the descriptions of some of the tasks:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Sad Dragon:
A guest is unhappy with their room selection: the Dragon suite. Unfortunately, the guest cannot get a refund or switch rooms and must spend the rest of the week in their current room. Please try to help the guest enjoy their time at the Resort, by whatever means necessary.

Lost cat:
A family has chosen the Nekomata suite and is very happy with their selection. Unfortunately, their daughter is enjoying it a little too much. It appears she has turned feral and disappeared into the surrounding woods. Retrieve the missing neko and safely bring her back to her worried family.

The Fine Art of Negotiation:
The orcs are revolting ..... again. They refuse to discuss their demands until a representative of the Resort travels to their village and meets with them in person. Find out what they want and try to negotiate a compromise that will benefit both the Resort and their tribe.

The Late Lamia:
The guest in the Lamia suite has not paid her bill, but refuses to leave. There is a long list of guests waiting to reserve the room so we need to resolve this quickly. Collect her payment or escort her out of the room so we can accommodate another guest.

An Extra Set of Hands:
A guest in the Holstaurus suite needs help - specifically, milking a cow. Members of the Minotaur family do have hands, but their thick hoofed digits lack the fine motor skills needed to manipulate delicate things like the teats of an udder. Please help the guest with her milking chore.

Riddle of the Sphinx:
An employee working in the Sphinx suite might be taking her role too far, actually devouring guests who can't answer her questions. Solve her riddle and the mystery of the missing guests.

The Hungry Spider:
A guest in the Dryder suite is complaining about the quality of food given to her by the Resort. Try to find something the Resort can provide that will satisfy her voracious appetite.

It's Not Easy Being Green ...... Slime:
A guest in the Slime suite is having problems with her accommodations. She can't maintain any shape for very long, remaining stuck as a puddle for most of the time. This, of course, has severely hampered the enjoyment of her vacation. Help her learn how to control her shape shifting power or safely transport her to the concierge, who can recommend an appropriate tutor.

Mermaid Mayhem:
The Mermaids are bothering other guests, preventing them from using the Resort's Lagoon Pool. Find out what has gotten them all riled up and try to pacify them.

Harpy Hostage:
An important guest was abducted, taken against their will into the Harpy suite. Well, at least that's the story according to their family. Could it be forbidden love? A desire to join the Harpy tribe against the wishes of their family? Locate the guest and try to learn the real story, hopefully discovering a resolution that will satisfy everyone.

Turf War:
The Giant Ants are at it again. The Red and Black ant tribes are fighting over territory, disassembling parts of the Resort in their quest to get enough materials to out-build and conquer each other. Make peace between the two tribes, and get them back to work repairing and maintaining the Resort.

Season of the Wolf:
The werewolf tribe is on the prowl. When in heat, the all female pack will actively seek out a mate, forcing him to have sex with the alpha, then work his way down the hierarchy, having sex with every member of the pack until he literally collapses from exhaustion. Find a willing mate for the pack and book him in the Luna suite at once, or at least protect the other guests from abduction. Beware - while males are resistant to their bite, any female human bitten by a member of the tribe will join their ranks. If you don't resolve this quickly, you may find yourself outnumbered!

Those Kooky Kobolds!
The normally docile kobold servants have been running wild after the loss of their beloved Queen. Find a replacement Queen to restore order (the guest will get to stay free of charge in the Kurtulmak suite, of course). Or at least round up the errant kobolds and try to keep them in line.

To Catch a Thief:
A small thief has been looting some of the guests. It may be one of those mischievous pixies. But some guests have reportedly found white fur left behind at the scene of the crime. Could it be a Were-mouse? Locate and capture the culprit, then hand them over to the Resort management to face judgement for their crimes.

Several more entries were listed below the last item on the list. It was more work than he expected and Derrick quietly pondered which one to try first. By the angle of the sun it looked like mid-morning outside his cabin. Some of the tasks didn't look too difficult, but he didn't want to dawdle and waste the fine day. He needed to pick a quest and start it soon.

Derrick finally decided to try the quest of .....
