Isaac landed on his back with a loud thud, causing nearby stalactites to break away from the ceiling. Stalagmites crumbled as well… fortunately, neither Isaac nor the unknown paladin were impaled. They were hurt, however, as Isaac felt a great pain on his back.
“Agh!” he grunted. He snarled his teeth, annoyed at how difficult this was. All he wanted to do was to vanquish the source of corruption, but the paladin’s need for protection kept him from venturing down as much as he needed.
The paladin wasn’t doing any better as he felt sore, a few of his body parts abraded by the rough rock. He bled minimally as he stood up.
“Where are we?” he asked.
“We fell deeper into the crypt,” Isaac said, grunting. “It would be hard to get back up with that wind…”
The paladin rubbed his head as it ached and throbbed. He couldn’t pinpoint what memories he lost other than what he told Isaac… it confused him.
Suddenly, a strange, warping noise was heard. Isaac’s wolfish ears perked up as he held his guard while the paladin, while strong in physique, stood close to Isaac for protection.
The two of them were unfamiliar with the sudden noise, but they didn’t hear it again. Isaac didn’t drop his defenses as he looked around for anything of the sort.
“You are becoming much of a burden to take care,” Isaac said. “You’re too weak against these kind of monsters, you don’t have a weapon of your own, and you have no armor! You’re basically easy prey for these vile creatures!”
The paladin, taken aback, spat at Isaac, who didn’t take this all too kindly. Still, he didn’t bother going at him since the hassle wasn’t worth it.
“Damn you… whatever you are! I was one of the High Paladins back then! I could fight back demons without any armor or weapons as long as I have my holy spells!”
“Save your audacity for later,” Isaac said, hushing the paladin. However, the paladin wasn’t ready to back down— no, he wants to challenge Isaac into a fight!
