It’s now two months later.
Kendra and Lisa have the weekend to themselves at Lisa’s house. For the past several hours, they’ve done nothing but swim in her pool. They telepathically gossiped, joked, and laughed underwater. They were having the time of their lives. On their last night together, they were relaxing in the hot tub, cuddling next to each other.
“If your mom loves mermaids,” Kendra asks, “Why not tell her the truth?”
Lisa looks at Kendra. “I’ve thought about it for years. But every time, I always swim away.”
Kendra wraps her arm around Lisa’s waist. “You’re afraid she’ll be jealous, or say something stupid like ‘I have no daughter,’ or some BS like that?”
Lisa didn’t answer. She looks sad.
Kendra places her hand on Lisa’s cheek. Their tails are nestled on top of each other. “How about, whenever your ready, we’ll show her together. I know deep down that she’ll still love us for who we are.”
Lisa smiles. “You’re truly a good friend, Kendra.” Unknowest to her, Kendra saw the edges of Lisa’s hair turning pink. Kendra hugs her.
‘She loves me,’ she thought.
