Looking for Escape

added 19 years ago A TG

Jared wasn't sure what she could do for the moment. She didn't know that she was any sort of rare deer, but the Vet seemed pretty sure of it. She looked around trying to find some obvious way that she could escape in the night, but came up empty. the walls were solid to the ceiling and the door, though only soild on the bottom, was too high for her to reach over. It had clearly been designed for larger animals.

She tried a few times in the night anyway. The latch was simple, something she felt she could manage just with her nose and tounge, but it just would work. Besides that, the outer doors to the vets barn were probebly locked.

So, she waited and slept. Despite everything, Jared wasn't that worried. She knew exactly where she had to go to find the amulet and it would only take a few minutes for her to change back now that she suspected the secret of the transformation process. She felt a few pangs of worry that the amulet might be gone by the time she got out of here, but put that aside. She'd deal with that if the time came.

Morning came all too soon, and she hadn't slept much between trying to work out the door latch and pondering her fate. The vet and his assistant were the first to check on her. Both seemed satisfied she was mending well. Later, a woman poked her head over the door and looked Jared over.

"She's definitly a Key deer," she commented to someone Jared couldn't see. "The man that hit her, you sure that it wasn't his?"

"I'm sure, I've known him for years. He keeps pets, but nothing exotic. She's got no tags or markings that would indicate ownership. She's extreamly easy around people, though. I can't imagine she's wild."

Jared actually considered freaking out the pair by displaying human intelligence, but stopped at the last second. She didn't want to make them more suspicious, but rather less.

The woman regarded Jared for a few more moments, "She's definitly not from around here, at least not legally. No one locally has a permit for Key deer." She jotted something down on the clipboard. "If you have no objections, I'll transfer her to the city zoo. They've got a Key deer enclosure, at least until we sort out where she's from."

Jared didn't like the sound of that. If she was endangered, they'd be paying special attention to prevent her from escaping. If they got her into the zoo itself, she had a sinking feeling that she'd be a zoo exhibit for the rest of her life!
