Jared waited patiently, building her strength up. She had to time things just right or she'd be stuck like this forever!
Casually, she poked her head over the top of the door several times. The large hallway ended at a loading door for large animals. As she watched that morning, a large trailer was backed up to the door and the main door was opened. It was a small gap between the wall and the trailer, but in her lith form, it would have to be enough.
Jared decided to be as docile as possible, pretend to be comfortable around humans and see what would happen. One of the handlers came over and gently placed a rope around her neck, but held it only loosely in her hands.
Jared stood very still while they opened the door, and even started walking normally toward the trailer. the keeper was talking with the vet, and about ten steps from the trailer, Jared watcher her take one hand off the rope to take some papers from the vet.
That was her chance! Jared suddenly lept forward with astonishing speed. Before they even knew what had happened, she was out the door, trailing the rope behind her!
Jared ran into the woods for a few minutes before she stopped and picked up the end of the rope in her mouth, then started running again. She kept to the deep woods, but doubted that she'd have a serious pursuit. She'd be worried if she was a large animal or carnivore, but an escaped doe wasn't going to get the police out in force.
It took a little over an hour, but Jared finally located the old abandoned cabin where he'd buried the amulet. Before digging it up, she decided to get the rope off her neck in case it interfered with the amulet. It took a while, but finally she managed to us her mouth, flexible neck and a nearby tree to coax the loop of rope off her head.
