The Way of the Firefox and the Water Buffalo

added by Alphagor 5 years ago O

The Five Elements had originally only been interested in the UFC-A tournament. But when they heard more about the A-BC, they suggested that there should also be a Martial Arts Showcase to show just what trained Animalian fighters were capable of. It wasn't really a martial arts tournament, just demonstrations of the agility, flexibility, and strength that martial arts provides. Of course, that will mean the Five Elements will have to practice their Kung Fu to be able to present it at the showcase.

For Huoxing and Shuixing, they were feeling a bit more pressure than their sisters. While Tuxing, Jinxing, and Muxing had their Tiger, Leopard, and Snake Kung Fu, there have been no formal Kung Fu styles based on either the Red Panda or the Asian Buffalo. But the master they were seeking advice from, Shao Xua, told them to find their own styles. "Many of the different styles were created when someone had taken the style that they knew and adapted it," said Shao Xua, "A good martial artist learns what he or she can from others before focusing on what suits him or her best. There is an old Taoist saying, 'Learn the way, then find your own way'. The term 'kung fu' can be translated to mean 'excellence of self'. That is what you must seek: what are your best skills and how to hone them."

As Huoxing and Shuixing practiced their martial arts skills, their particular styles began to stand out more. Huoxing favored a style much like Monkey Kung Fu, though it borrowed a lot of moves from capoeira. A good way to describe Huoxing's Firefox Style is that she never stands still. When not striking at an opponent from unpredictable angles, she dances around the opponent like a flame, doing backflips. tumbles, and cartwheels. This not only made her move fast, but it was confusing for opponents who couldn't tell what she was going to do.

In contrast, Shuixing's Water Buffalo style focused on remaining still. Like how water buffaloes stand their ground to predators, Shuixing rarely moved her feet. Any foe's attack would be blocked by her arms, legs, or even horns if they got close. It was mainly a defensive art, but one that could be maintained while the opponent wore down. When Shuixing does move, it's as a near-unstoppable charge. One would expect someone who represented the Water element to be more fluid in movement. Her response was: "Water has many different forms; rain, snow, ice, lake, river, and clouds. There is never just one shape to it. This style is a tidal wave: barely noticeable on the surface until it moves in to strike with devastating force."

While the pair's styles still needed honing and refining, they did show potential. The Five Elements weren't planning on fighting crime or staring in action movies, but their training was making them closer as a team.
