The bright light from the wrecked computer became even brighter, too much for Jeff's reptilian eyes. Hissing a bit with pain, Jeff covered his eyes as the light became too much to bear. Eventually, it hit critical mass and exploded outwards, covering the room, the house, the neighborhood, and spreading onward. The light covered the city, spreading out across the state. Eventually, the whole country was enveloped before it started spreading over the ocean. The whole world was engulfed with light before anyone could react to it. It even extended outwards, swallowing up the moon and everything man-made in between. Eventually, the light faded, but the world that was left was completely different. Instead of the seven distinct continents, there was now only one massive continent with islands of varying sizes scattered across the globe-encompassing ocean.
When Jeff could open his eyes again, he was no longer in his room. In fact, he couldn't recognize where he was at all. All he could see was that he was on a cliff overlooking a vast jungle. He could see other cliffs in the distance, one of which had a waterfall going down it. There was nothing remotely resembling civilization as far as the eye could see. Looking at himself, he could see that he was still a hybrid between a human being and a velociraptor. There was barely anything mammalian about him except for the hair on his head and the pair of nipples on his chest.
"What just happened?" he asked, "What did I do?" He looked around to see if there was anything left of the computer and the Chronivac. Eventually, his sharp eyes spotted something reflective in the long grass. Reaching down, he picked up a palm-sized computer with the word 'Chronivac' stenciled on it. It had a solar-powered panel and a display screen. There was a tiny keyboard and a stylus attacked to a wire which would make it easier to work with considering his claw-tipped fingers. Relieved he could get some answers, he punched in 'What happened to the Earth?' and hit enter.
The computer screen displayed:
This is Mesozoic World, an alternate reality filled with civilized and uncivilized dinosaurs. In this world, continental drift stopped progressing after the Jurassic period, so the meteor that would have wiped out the dinosaurs landed in the ocean instead. As the dinosaurs were never wiped out, mammals never arose to dominance. However, roughly 100 years before now, another meteor had a collision course with Earth. It burned up in the atmosphere, but released a mutagenic dust throughout the atmosphere. Approximately 50% of all dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and marine reptiles became anthropomorphic and sapient. A majority of the planet is still untamed and civilization is at best at a Bronze Age level.
Jeff groaned to himself. He had only meant to change himself, not the entire world. He punched in 'Can I undo this change?'
The computer screen displayed:
Insufficient power to make changes of that scale. Current battery limit can only provide localized changes. The bigger the change, the more time it takes to recharge. Deprivation of solar energy will also limit changes possible.
So at this current calculator-like form, the Chronivac was incapable of changing the world back to what it once was. Jeff was going to have to find a larger source of energy if he wanted to change everything back. On the other hand, his modern human knowledge would put him far above the less-intelligent dino-people of this new world. He could make himself king of this land. He could also use the Chronivac to change himself into a more suitable form; an anthro T-Rex to better assert his new status as king, an anthro pterosaur to be able to cover more distance. This new world presents so many possibilities.
