After dinner, Luke and his friends still wanted to keep trying on the rings. Since they wanted to keep the rings a secret for now, they did not tell their parents or Luke's little sister Suzie about them. Mark, Max, and Zack asked their parents if they could spend the night at Luke's. Scott and Sharon decided that this should be up to Ethan and Alisa--Luke's parents--and Ethan decided that it would be fine. With that, Scott and Sharon went back across the street to get some things for their sons, while the four teens raced back up to Luke's bedroom. Once inside, the boys shut the door, and then Luke told Mark and Max that their younger brother and snuck a turn before dinner by trying on a ring in the bathroom. After hearing that Zack had been worried that he might not get his turn, Mark and Max understood, and asked the see the ring; Zack produced it from his pants' pocket.
"Do you wanna try it on again?" Mark asked his younger brother.
"Actually, I want to try testing two rings at once," Zack replied.
"What? Which ones?" Max asked.
Zack went over to the bed and took the two half-rings that Mark had chosen earlier--the half-rings that turned the two wearers into conjoined twins. He came back with the half-rings, and the one that he had tried on earlier--the one that can give the wearer extra heads according to the wearer's will and desire.
"These two rings," Zack replied to Max. "But I may need a volunteer for the half rings."
Luke volunteered, seeing as Mark and Max had already tested out the half rings with each other. Zack and Luke each put one half of the ring on their fingers, and in a matter of minutes they fused into a two-headed being, clothes and all. Next, Zack slipped the other ring onto his finger. Nothing happened.
"Why do you guys still have two heads?" Mark asked.
"Because we haven't wished for more yet," Zack answered.
"How many more do you want?" Luke asked his conjoined twin.
"Well, since we don't know exactly what will happen," Zack said, "let's start with one extra head."
"Agreed," Luke replied.
As soon as Luke finished, Zack concentrated--he wanted another head. Then, his head and Luke's spread apart as their body widened. A new shirt hole opened between their heads, and a lump began to grow out of it. As the lump formed the shapes of eyes, ears, mouth, and nose, all four teens wondered what the new head would look like.
