Danial Smith was just a regular thirteen year old with a short mop of brown hair and the awkwardness which is inherent to that age demographic. He had a loving middle class family with a younger sister and brother, went to a normal public junior high school school, watched normal movies and TV, played normal games, had normal ambitions, dreams and aspirations, a cohort of normal friends and a few normal crushes. One normal day after a normal breakfast he was dropped off at school by his mom in a normal shirt, jacket, sneakers and jeans. He paid little heed to the "Bigtop Blowout" audition posters the drama section had set up. Everything was as it had always been for, at the start at least.
The first thing he noticed first period he noticed that Lisa, a girl that he had the acquaintance of, had added some blue highlights to her brown hair, which seemed to be out of character. He noticed a couple more colorful highlights on the period, most striking was that some of them were on boys and even a teacher or two. Some people seemed a bit paler than normal, a few of the balding male teachers had fresh stubble and looked a bit younger.
Then at lunch he noticed the strangest thing: Michelle, an friend of his since childhood entered the cafeteria and sat down at his table. Even though it was hard to tell it given her new look, which was garnering a lot of attention. Simply put, she was made up as a clown, though he'd never seen a clown that had put as much effort into it as she did. Her complexion was as white as snow on most of the skin that he could see and glossy. Two pink circles covered each cheek with three freckles each while her light green shadowed eyes had long lashes. Her nose ended in a small glossy fuschsia semi-sphere while she had a broad fuschsia smile. Her hair was a vivid dark green and done up in a puffed up bob, out of which came two antennae ending in small green puffballs. Her dress was green and pink with a leafy and floral pattern with pink and yellow stockings going down to somewhat large high heel shoes, green gloves encased her hands and a pair of green fairy wings poked out of her back. She was wearing a minty perfume. Only her backpack was normal.
"Hey Dan!" She said loudly waving as she ran over and took her seat next to him.
"Uh...hey Michelle?" Dan asked the fairy clowngirl as she put down a tray with four candy bars and a carton of chocolate milk. "Well...you trying out for the musical?"
"Oh most indubitably!" She said excitedly. "It's a beautiful show you know." She began nibbling on a chocolate bar in a rather rabbit like way.
"Well that explains the...get up."
"Well yes..." she snorted and to Dan's amazement her wings fluttered "...I definitely look the part now Danny Boy! Also...if you don't mind, could you call me MiMi? Help me 'get into character' for the auditions."
"Well, um, MiMi. I don't think you'll have a...problem with that. Who made you up like that?"
"If you have to know, I did have a bit of help from my Mom. Even so think It turned out just...Wondiferious! If you want to know more about it, come over after school."
The next twenty minutes involved Dan engage in an awkward exchange with the self styled MiMi. At the end of it her phone rang, she got a text message and said. "Oh sorry. Gotta Run!" She gave Dan a peck on the cheek and made her way out with a surprising turn of speed, leaving him the focus of a lot of attention. He backed out as quietly as he could and made his way to the library for the rest of Lunch Hour. Afterwards he wondered what to do now.
