The next day was an uneventful one as Nate hung around the house, waiting for the next possible transformation, but it never came despite Kathryn's veiled warnings. Still, he enjoyed his little piece of piece as he completed his homework and watched some T.V. His brother Kris and mother returned that evening for dinner, with pizza in hand. As Nate was setting the table, his Mom was getting some glasses from the cupboard in the kitchen.
"Honey, what's that with your hair? Is it getting a little gray?" she asked.
Nate's heart dropped. No, not now, he thought as he set down the last plate. "Uh, no of course not. I'll be right back."
He ran around the corner and dashed up the steps, staring at his forearms as he ran up the steps watching the white fuzz grow in. He ran into his bedroom, closing the door behind him as he watched the transformation quickly occur as he silently dropped to all fours as he transitioned once again from boy to dog. He paced the floor of his room, waiting for the transformation spell to end and allow him to turn back to human again. He was annoyed at the timing as this undoubtedly would mean his pizza would be cold once he got back down there. He momentarily thought, hey I could just tell her the truth.
"Yeah, this crazy witch next door thought it'd be fun to curse me to turn into a dog periodically every day for a week. How was your weekend?" He then decided that wouldn't be such a great idea.
"Honey? Where did you go? It's time for dinner!" called his Mom from downstairs.
"I'll get him," he heard Kris respond, followed by the sound of him running up the stairs. Nate knew what that meant. He made a dash for the door. He couldn't let his brother see him like this.
