Matt decided to open the Heighterizer box first. Even if it was just a prank, Matt did feel somewhat underwhelmed by his height. At 5'2", Matt was short for his age. Basically everyone else towered over him, most of the other 14 year olds hitting 5'10" and over.
Opening the package, Matt found a control box with a digital display. Below the display was a power button and a button labelled "REVERT". Probably for emergencies, Matt thought.
Matt found the power cord, and plugged it in. When he pressed power, the machine emitted a small startup chime, and displayed two options on the screen:
[A] SIMPLE ADJUSTMENT - For beginners who want to easily control their size adjustments
[B] SET PARAMETERS - Adjust characteristics individually before starting
Below that, the machine showed this line, with the Y selected:
ADJUST PROPORTIONS TO MATCH? (Y/N)
What a joke, Matt thought. He wanted to see how much detail this really had, so he tapped SET PARAMETERS. The menu options immediately were replaced by a dialog box, which read "PLEASE SCAN FINGER".
Curious now, Matt slowly undressed, and gingerly placed his finger on the display. Expecting the machine to take a picture or something, he was instead greeted by the dialog disappearing and being replaced by several new fields of information. The screen read:
[SUBJECT INFO]
HEIGHT: 62IN (5FT, 2IN)
WEIGHT: 100LBS
SHOE SIZE: US7
Curious, Matt tapped on the height box. Two arrows appeared. Matt hesitated, wondering if this was a prank, then pressed the up arrow once. The 5'2" changed to a 5'3". Matt sighed. Well, if he was gonna do this, might as well go all out. He had always wondered what it would like to be freakishly tall, having looked up other 14 year old basketball players on the internet that had passed 7 feet. He held down the arrow. The numbers ticked up. 5'6"... 5'9"... 6'0"... 6'3"... until the display read out 7'2". Matt stopped, then hit OK.
Exiting the menu, Matt noted that both of the other numbers had changed to reflect the 7'2" figure. His weight according to the box would be 250LBS, while his shoe size had changed to a US23. Curious now, if the box really did what it said, Matt tapped "APPLY CHANGES"
