"And what about you? Who are your cartoon crushes, Cheryl?"
Cheryl laughed and threw the pillow back at Kelly, who unconsciously used her new segmented pink mouse tail to block the throw. "I guess it's Racer Rabbit," answered the red headed and slightly freckled girl. You know, the superhero bunny that used to come on when we were back in Third Grade? I always thought he was pretty cute -especially his alter ego, Bruce Bunny."
At that very moment, the television began to show an old Racer Rabbit cartoon. Cheryl let out a squeal of delight. "Oh my gosh, what a coincidence!" she cried, the Giggle Gas preventing her from considering the possibility that there was nothing coincidental at all about this strange development.
"Out of the blue, like a bolt of lightening, it's Racer, Racer Rabbit! For good he's fighting, his speed it's frightening, it's Racer, Racer Rabbit!" The show's catchy theme song filled Cheryl's ears -ears that were beginning to grow strawberry colored ink and paint fuzz along the now pointed tips.
As the program continued, the plot that emerged was one that Cheryl failed to recognize, in spite of the fact that the girl was sure she'd seen every episode across all three seasons. In the show, Racer's love interest, Linda Lapine, had been shot with a Change-O-Ray by Dr. Hypno, transforming her from her usual rabbit self into a human! As Racer lamented Linda's unfortunate condition, bemoaning her lack of "beautiful perky ears and wonderful whiskers" while swearing to return her to normal, Cheryl slowly began to identify with the character's predicament. If only she was a rabbit woman, then maybe her crush Racer would be attracted to her!
