Jake felt a rush of déjà-vu, as he tried to focus through the dots and flashes in his eye. He was able to force his mind back into focus, finding himself still standing in the den. He scratched his beard for a moment, trying to remember what he was doing there, when a sudden wail jogged his memory.
He looked down to see his baby daughter Stephanie, crying as she tried to open that old book Jake's wife had borrowed from the library. He sighed, remembering that he was trying to get her to calm down for a nap when the book peaked her interest. Apparently it was a fleeting hope as she was back to crying.
"Come on sweetie, what's the matter?" Jake soothingly asked, picking her up. "Won't you tell daddy?"
Baby Steph, still sniffling, just kept pointing at the book. Jake figured she was just so upset that she didn't know what she wanted. He figured that playing with some old book wouldn't;t help so he quickly moved it onto the kitchen table before going back to rocking the baby. She only seemed to get more upset, however, so Jake decided to go to plan B.
Alana was checking out of the office when her cell phone wrung once again. She waved goodbye to her bff Claire the receptionist and answered the call with a cute "Hello love of my life!"
"Hey honey!" Jake yelled through baby wails. "Just, um, checking in!"
Alana couldn't;t help but laugh. She loved Jake and he was a great father, but he was always bad with super young babies.
"Let me guess, you missed Steph's nap window and now you can't get her to sleep?" She asked with an obvious smug tone.
"No! I just, uh.... yeah. Yeah. Help?" He asked meekly.
Alana giggled. They had been married for nearly 10 years now and she still loved him just as much as the day they first met. They both met in college after a crazy night of partying. Alana was a bit of a sorority bimbo back in those days. Stereotypical blonde beauty with big breasts and no brains. So, one day she inevitably woke up after a party with no idea where she was. Jake was the only person up and managed to calm down a hungover Alana.
The two got to chatting as Alana got over her hangover, and pretty soon that turned to hanging out, which turned into a friendship, that eventually blossomed into the marriage they had today. Both usually had jobs, but after their son Mark was born, Alana took off for a few years. She got back into the business eventually, and made Jake promise to take the dive whenever they decided to have another kid.
Alana sometimes regretted letting Jake handle most of the at home baby stuff after he got a minor job to balance, but she found it too endearing to say anything.
"I'll be right there, right after I pick up Mark." She replied.
Alana rolled in with Mark in tow about 20 minutes later. Mark immediately hopped out, raced over to his bike, and waved at his mother before yelling "Bye Mom I"m going to Tony's see ya!" Alana sighed, wondering what on earth she would do with that boy. Alana walked in, expecting to see a nightmare scene, but was pleasantly surprised to find her husband gently rocking a sleeping baby girl.
"Wow, I'm impressed." Alana chuckled.
"Oh shush, you know I can normally handle this stuff." He jokingly snapped back. "Today my head was just a bit, I don't know, fuzzy?"
"Huh, that's weird. Me too." Alana said before kissing her husband. "Just a long week I suppose."
"I guess." Jake whispered as he walked out of the room to put Steph down for his nap. When he came back, he saw Alana staring at the weird book.
"Oh yeah, I've been meaning to ask you about that thing." Jake stated. "It really caught Steph's attention for a bit, but why'd you check that thing out of the library anyway? It doesn't even look like it's in a language I've ever seen."
Alana just look back confused. "I thought you checked this out?"
Both of them stood very uncomfortable for a moment. Jake noticed Alana was looking upset, so he sat next to her, rubbing her shoulder.
"Honey I'm sorry I didn't mean to freak you out! I'm sure it was just Mark for a project!"
"Yeas, you're probably right... but, these weird memory loses we've been having?" She asked.
"Stress, you've only just reentered the working world, after having a baby no less!" He replied. "It's perfectly normal to be a bit off."
Alana wanted to fully believe what her husband was saying, but she still couldn't shake that nagging feeling in her head that something was wrong. Alog with the occasional memory fuzziness, she had been seeing weird things too. The strangest was on the ride home, where she could've have sworn she saw a teenaged boy and a tween girl in her and Mark's place in the rear view mirror. It was only for a second, but the same nagging feeling she had gotten after seeing that was back as she looked at this old book.
Her thoughts were once again interrupted again with a firm pinch on her massive ass. She let out a sequel before covering her mouth and looking at Jake with a bright red face. Jake chuckled as he leaned in for a kiss. Alana started to feel her panties get wet as Jake caressed her breasts. He always knew how to turn her on.
"I'm promising you honey, it's stress." He said in that gravely voice that always got Alana fired up. "Steph is fast asleep, and Mark probably ran off to a friends house again right? So we basically have the house to ourselves. Don't we?"
Alana's heart was pounding. She wanted to, so desperately, but something in the back of her mind was telling her that something was wrong. She glanced back at the book one more time and then back at Jake.
