Working it Out

added by JLTF 4 years ago O

"Sign here," one of the delivery men said as they started toting in several very large boxes. Nick stared at them impressed but was trying to get them to stop.

"What's going on?" he asked. "I only ordered like a couple of weights. It was just supposed to be two ten pound ones..."

"Dunno," the delivery man shrugged. "This was what was on the paperwork."

Nick grabbed it and looked through it. Every box seemed accounted for but there were just too many. "But... But... But..." he stammered as yet another two boxes entered his house.

"If you have any problems, just give the company a call," the delivery man said. "We already got it inside. I sure as hell don't want to carry it back out."

"Right..." Nick agreed. The other men had already started to set up the entire set of gym equipment. It was more than he ever thought he'd need. The guys delivering the equipment just moved everything out of the way and acted like it was completely normal. Nick wanted to protest but found it hard to speak up over the noise. And that their large imposing nature looked like they knew what they were doing. He feverishly searched through his payment history but found that only the two ten pound weights that he ordered was charged to his phone.

The delivery man could see how anxious Nick was being. "Just give the company a call and they'll handle everything. I go out to jobs like this all the time. People say they received the wrong order and complain. But then I never have to go back and pick it up. Strange little thing. Just give them a call and I'm sure they'll work everything out for ya." He gave Nick a nice slap to the back, nearly knocking him over and then turned to the delivery guys. "Alright boys! Finish up and we roll out."

"Yes, sir!" the men chanted. It looked like they were already almost done. Though Nick's living room had all been pushed to the side to allow room for all the gym equipment. The men seemed professional enough and each left rather quickly without messing up a thing.

Nick dialed up the company he'd ordered from, ready to tell them their mistake. He walked through everything that had been set up and wondered what some of it was supposed to do. It all looked so fancy and heavy. "Thank you for calling C.C. Helios. I'm Madison. How may I help you?"

"Oh! Hi. Yes. Hi. My name is Nick and I seem to have received the wrong order."

"Oh dear," Madison replied in the fake chipper voice. "What seems to have been wrong about the order."

"Well... Uhh... I think I received too much. So all I wanted were two ten pound weights because the five pound ones I've been using are getting a bit too light. But... Well... Somehow somewhere there must have been a mix up because I just received an entire gym worth of equipment."

"Oh dear!" Madison faked a certain amount of concern. "That is quite a difference. Let me check our databases for what might have gone wrong. I'll be back in just a second." A stock free song played over the phone while he waited. "Nick? Hello?" Madison came back on the phone. "I'm sorry to say, I'm unsure what you are talking about. According to the paperwork you received everything you were supposed to receive."

"But... But... I didn't order this much!"

"I understand sir but there's nothing in our databases about missing workout equipment. How about this, if you really don't want it feel free to call us back in a few days and we'll send someone out to pick it up for you. I understand something like this can be rather cumbersome and take up a lot of room, but maybe you'll learn to love it!"

Nick paused. He didn't know what to say. The company did promise 100% satisfaction guarantee and he couldn't really complain about how much he had. All together this stuff would have cost him upwards $10,000 and there was no way he could afford that. "Alright," he agreed. "If I'm not happy then I'll make sure to send it back."

"That sounds like an amazing plan," Madison said. "Is there anything else I can do for you?"

"I don't think so..."

"Well, then I must thank you for calling C. C. Helios and feel free to call back at anytime," then Madison hung up the phone.

"Jeez..." Nick wondered how a company like that could afford to make such a large gaffe. But then again he thought he might as well make the most of the situation. He looked over the equipment and felt an odd compulsion to just start using them. The second he touched them, his mind went blank and his body went into action. On a nonstop cycle he started pushing out rep after rep, exercise after exercise and set after set. For several hours his body moved to the will of the machines.

"Woah..." Nick muttered when he finally stopped. "That was quite the workout..." Every part of his body felt a little bit more like jello. He could barely concentrate on anything other than the dull burn his muscles were giving off. More over, he was really tired. "Maybe it's not so bad..." Nick said to himself as he headed for bed. After all, he'd be able to workout a lot more now that he had everything at home.
