Groggily he wakes up and go through his normal routine. The other kids mostly ignore him as you wash yourself and head down to eat in the eating area. All the other kids talk to their friends or mess around, but Ben was still a tad tired and didn’t quite feel like doing much,
His silent breakfast is interrupted when one of the staff comes to fetch him “Come with me boy” says the stern voice of the orphanage caretakers,
Without question he follows, he has learned quickly in the past not to argue with the caretakers. He hopes he isn’t in trouble or anything, hopefully he just forgot something.
To his shock he is dragged into the adoption office and sat down and told to wait. He sits then with a small but growing exciment, has he finally been adopted? Did his wish for a better life come true?
He doesn’t want to get his hopes up but he can’t help himself. Giddily he waits as the adoption officer, an older nasty woman, walks in and takes a seat as she ruffled through some papers.
“Congratulations kid, you’re getting adopted” she says offhandily as she goes through her paperwork.
A rare smile comes across his face “Really?! By who? When?” Ben has a million questions but before he can get into them the lady before him snaps.
“Quiet down. Now go pack your things, they’re waiting for you. And also mindful... these folks are kind of... odd” he nods quickly and rush to gather his few possession.
As you do that your excitement takes a brief halt as you consider the adoption’s officer’s words. From what you’ve seen of her she’s always been someone who doesn’t much care about who adopts who, the fact she has gone out of her way to say your new family is odd is kind of concerning.
But he brush it off, it can’t be that bad. She’s probably just in a bad mood again or something anyway. At th end of the day it can’t be that bad, he’s finally getting adopted after all. Rushing down to meet his new family he immediately notices why the adoption officer chose her words.
