Laura takes a few steps toward the exit when a, now massive, librarian steps out in front of her. The woman looks to be about Laura's former age which makes it even more disconcerting to see her tower over the girl.
"Honey, the children's section is back over that way."
"But..."
"No buts I'm sure your parents would be worried sick if you wandered off."
Laura could see from her tone and dismissive attitude, the librarian probably doesn't much care to play babysitter. Before Laura could respond the librarian took her by the arm and led her over to the children's section, stopping first to remove the girl's coat, despite Laura's protests, and hang it on a rack just outside.
"Make sure you're parents are with you next time you leave. And don't forget story time is in 10 minutes and there'll be snacks."
And with that the librarian walked back to her desk, which had a clear view of the children's section entrance. Laura never felt more helpless than after experiencing the feeling of being treated like a bothersome child. Now what was she going to do? Not only would that librarian be keeping an eye out for her she also needed to get the dice back.
