The next morning, Tad woke up and got ready for school like he did on most mornings. He got dressed, ate breakfast, brushed his teeth, made his lunch, said goodbye to his mom and Claire, and left for the bus stop.
As Tad walked down the street towards the bus stop, he saw a familiar face was already waiting for him there. He began to pick up the pace a bit in order to get to the bus stop sooner.
“Morning Amy,” Tad said as he arrived at the bus stop. Amy turned when she heard Tad’s voice, smiling when she saw him.
“Morning Tad,” she said, pulling the male into a hug before giving him a kiss.
“I missed talking to you yesterday morning,” Tad said. “Don’t get me wrong, it was nice to talk with Connor and Ryan, but they were mostly talking to each other, so I didn’t really have anyone to talk to.”
“Sorry about that,” Amy said. “I had that doctor’s appointment yesterday.”
“It’s fine,” Tad said. “By the way, if you don’t mind me asking, what was that doctor’s appointment about? You were kind of vague when you told me about it.”
“Oh, it was just my annual checkup with the doctor,” Amy explained. “My mom always schedules the appointments as early in the day as possible.”
“They were open that early in the morning?”
“No, they didn’t open until 8:00. My mom made my appointment for 8:30 that morning, and instead of going to pick me up from school to take me to the doctor’s office just to take me back when the appointment was over, my mom decided that it would be easier for me to just miss the first bit of school and take me to school when my appointment was over.”
“Alright, I guess that makes sense,” Tad commented.
“So how did your talk with Connor go yesterday afternoon?” Amy asked, a bit curious as to what transpired.
“Things went pretty well,” Tad said. “He, Ryan, and I went over to Ryan’s house, and I brought up what you had noticed the previous day. Connor revealed that he’s really unsure about what gender he’s attracted to.”
“Ah…” Amy said, nodding. “So he’s queer?”
“Basically,” Tad confirmed. “After that, Ryan and I talked to him, and we told him how he should tell his parents about this. He seemed on board with the idea, but I’m not sure if he’s told them already.”
“That’s good!” Amy responded. She was silent for a few seconds until she suddenly asked “Do you think they’ll end up together?”
“What?” Tad asked, caught off guard by Amy’s sudden question. “Who are you talking about?”
“Connor and Ryan,” Amy explained. “I think they’d make a really cute couple.”
“Jesus, that’s a bit sudden,” Tad said, laughing a bit. “But I guess I see what you mean.”
“So you agree with me?” Amy asked.
“Yeah, I guess I can see them as a thing,” Tad admitted. “But it’s not something that I want to force on them like it’s expected.”
“I totally agree,” Amy said.
