Amanda looked around confused, she had woke up this morning unable to breath and now she was breathing through gills in a small tank being pushed through a warehouse of some kind. She couldn’t really see much because of the thick plastic of the tank she was in and the of course the water. She knew she had the monster virus because she was breathing underwater. Then Stacy held up a piece of paper which told her that they where all infected with the mermaid strain of the Monster virus and they where heading to Florida.
She wanted to talk to her parents, to talk to her friends, she found herself crying but her tears disappeared within the water. Next thing she knew she was on an airplane and then hours later she was being unloaded from the plane and taken into the warehouse. Her friends headed one way while she was pushed in her tank into a different area.
The tank was rolled to a stop and then she felt the tank shift, she didn’t know it at first but she realized that she was being lifted into the air by a crane. Then she felt the tank move to the right before being lowered back down, however instead of hitting concrete the tank splashed down into water. The tank descended downward at least a dozen feet or more. Her heart was beating a mile a minute and it only jumped when a hand slammed against the glass of her tank. Amanda closed her eyes and tried her best to get into a fetal position as she heard a pop sound.
“It’s alright.” Said a reassuring female voice as the hand came onto her shoulder. “No one is going to hurt you.”
She opened her eyes to see the top of the tank had been opened and a woman’s face looked down at her. The woman had lime green hair and wore a seashell and sea weed bikini top. A white spot with a red cross was painted in the center right of the top.
“What is your name?” inquired the woman
“Amanda.” Answered Amanda
“Well welcome Amanda I am sure you have a lot of questions but first let’s get you out of this tank.” Said the woman as Amanda slowly swam toward the surface only to be stopped. “No…sorry but if you go above water your choke, you can’t breathe air anymore.”
“Mermaid virus…right.” Said Amanda as she looked at the woman and noticed the forest green scale covered tail, she almost looked like she had came out of a movie however she had small side fines as well as a large tail fin.
“Yes, this is the transformation center, there is a mercolony a few miles swim to the north but right now we need to get you settled in.” announced the mermaid “My name is Nancy by the way.”
“Alright…” said Amanda as she looked around the tank seamed to have doors within it, she was guided toward the nearest door and lead in. The room before her was totally underwater with glowing panels on the wall.
“You will need to change out of your surface cloths.” Advised Nancy “And I need to check you for other signs of transformation…I can already tell you have gills and oil.”
“Oil?” inquired Amanda
“Saltwater and water in general aren’t good for skin to be submerged in none stop.” explained Nancy “You know when you do the dishes and your fingers get all wrinkly?”
“Yes.” Confirmed Amanda
“Well merpeople and all underwater monster skins have an oil which protect their skin and hair from the effects of the water.” Explained Nancy “Since your skin isn’t wrinkly then I can tell you have the oil skin already.”
“I see…” confirmed Amanda
“Now…the hard news.” Announced Nancy as she reached toward a small panel in the wall and took out what looked to be a strange looking gun. However instead of a barrel, there was a long needle with a container with a greenish liquid in it. “This is an acceleration agent it will finish your transformation within a few minutes.”
Amanda’s eyes widened as she looked at the needle
“It isn’t a choose, you will have to take this shot it is for your safety, we want to make sure your body is fully adapted to the sea as soon as possible to avoid any injuries.” Explained Nancy “The first couple of merpeople ended up blind or deaf because some parts of their bodies hadn’t adapted to the sea and those parts where damaged due to being in the water to long.”
“I…I…see.” Said Amanda as she thought about it, she was trapped, the room was large yes but she wasn’t adapted to the sea like Nancy was. There was only one choose. “Can I have a moment.”
“Of course.” Confirmed Nancy as Amanda pulled a golden necklace off, the golden cross visible as she held it tight within her hands. She closed her eyes and prayed for a moment before….
