Just then Shawna heard the door open. Jay and Dan! What would they think about a strange black woman in their apartment? Before Shawna could figure out what to say, the two came into the room and saw her.
Their reaction, however, was not what she was expecting! Dan threw his fist in the air and shouted "Yes!" Jay knelt on the ground before Shawna, and said, with tears in his eyes, "You have returned at last, my queen."
"Huh?" Shawna responded.
Jay and Dan were metamorphosing, in front of Shawna's eyes. Dan into a tall, thin, very beautiful woman the color of mocha, Jay into a short, stocky woman the color of dark chocolate with a pattern of scars on her cheek and forehead. Yet they both seemed somehow familiar.
"Has your memory not returned, my lady?" the new Jay asked.
"Memory? Memory of what? Do you even know who I am? I'm Sean! Who the hell are you two?"
"She doesn't know." Jay said to Dan. She turned to Shawna. "Sean wasn't real. You are now, and always have been, Shawna, Queen of the Black Amazons of Qirmallah. The three of us were cursed, transformed and exiled to this miserable world, and we were stuck here until you could recover your true form and memory. I'm Jayutah, commander of your guard. We'd almost given up hope."
"And I'm Danitru, your consort." Dan came up to Shawna and put her hand on the queen's shoulder. There was something awfully familiar, and comforting, about her touch.
"Ok." said Shawna. "I'm almost buying this. Those names you mention do seem to touch something in my memory. But I don't really remember Qirmallah, or being an Amazon, let alone a queen."
Jayutah responded. "May I make a suggestion, my liege?"
"Please do!"
"We could try restoring your memory using. . ."
